Gday Jay Removing the 2nd sump plug is a precise action to ensure it doesn’t contact the bottom sump plug hole and falling into the lower sump. Enjoying your videos in Australia mate 🇦🇺

My current oil pan is tall enough I can't remove the allen wrench from the lower sump with the pan in place. I just loosen it and lower it to let it drain, then retighteni it when I'm finished.

Nice post, thanks. Is the upper sump plug steel? If so would magnetising the 5mm long hex help in your opinion? Keep up the good work 👍🏻

Gah, that is a GREAT question! Now that you mention it, I would bet that it is. Certainly didn't seem light enough to be aluminum. Certainly wouldn't hurt.

Love your oil change video. It's been a year, how does the Lucas oil perform? Tell me about that 👍

It seems to work just fine. No issues, which is what we want, right?

Good bit of info on the dual sump plug setup ... K&N oil filter ... Tut Tut, very low quality filter with minimal paper element inside,... I stopped using them when the welded nuts kept snapping off on removal.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to do some research and see who is winning the filter wars. Kinda like "What's the best oil?"...

At 5:35 You said 97 foot-pounds for the oil filter torque but I think you meant 97 inch-pounds which is 11 Newton-meters.

You MUST carry extra oil in your bag at all times !! These bikes burn oil especially when you’re 1500 to 2,000 miles of your next service . I like to carry 10 fluid ounces of oil in one of those empty Canada Dry / Club soda bottles. One time my check oil warning registered 100 miles from home. My wife was good enough to bring me some BMW oil. Since then my warning ⚠️ has gone off two more times .. and I’m prepared now ! 😎🤙

Neither of my K1600GTs burn oil between changes. But if they did, you can always just go to any car parts store and add a quart if it gets low.

My 2012 K1600 GT hast 50K miles and burns no oil ever. If your bike is burning that much, you may have a problem.

Can you suggest The best most economical oil and oil filter to use?

Oil is one place I don't skimp, and only use Redline 10w-40 in winter and 20w-50 in the summer. I use the factory oil filter.

I used the K. &N filter on my 2011 GTL, and when I got on it to test ride the bike, my gear shifter was hitting the filter extension where the socket goes on. I had to grind it down about 1/8 “ so I could shift without interference. Has anybody else run into this problem?
@JayBearjaysbigadventure3 жыл бұрын
I've used them before without issue on my 2012. I wonder if it was just a batch issue where the socket point was just a smidge too big?

TXS !!. Do you reset the service light yourself, or just ride with it on ? Another BMW BS $$ trap.

I did a video on the MotoScan App and the GS-911, so I have the ability to turn off the lights. Thanks!

I am concerned with not using the correct 5W-40 full synthetic. Can anyone with experience tell me what brand I can use besides the very expensive BMW brand?
@JayBearjaysbigadventure2 жыл бұрын
Remember, the recommended oil is just an average that anyone can use most of the time. Severe use, extreme temps and fast riding all factor into this.

Bullshit you run the engine till the fan comes on then let it sit for a couple of minutes that's BMW procedures
