Removal of the head and a look at the whole stuff.
Regular process before setting the bike on fire.
Maybe this thing will run the next decade if i'm lucky lol
The engine is good,there are 15 bars of compression.
Worth fixing it.

Thank you : ) They did use 4 valves on the k1100 4 valves do not allow you the same torque at low or middle range rpm. The turbulences in the combustion chamber and cylinder are not so good than with 2 valves There is nearly no swirl with 4 valves but only tumble Moreover the chamber is hemispheric and there is no room for 4 valves. The compression ratio is high 11.5/1 and all the engine (and the concept of those bikes) is designed to torque use ,not high output There is 75 hp at the wheel only

Well i have to take my hat off to you, that spark plug socket made a smashing spring compressor and a nice window to the retainer :-)) The tool you had to buy to remove the head bolts was "pants" and i assume the underware frame was eather your way of visually saying "pants" or you were thinking of stripping something else down ha ha :-)) Ahh the slightly dead valve, and the others looked well past there guarantee lol, best to replace them :-)) You got very artistic at the end :-)

It's not a lot,but the efficiency is good tahnks to the injection : the mileage too 50, 55 mpg They are made for cruising,no need 4 valves for that. Even nowadays you can see variable timing and disabling 2 of 4 valves on low middle rpm to be able to use swirl and produce a nicer torque like on vtec engines and such. Greets fro France ! : )

That sucks : ( seized engine is weird. how many kilometers on it ? you had enough oil ? not overheated ?
@gillm33
@gillm33 10 жыл бұрын
50,000 miles so I guess that's about 75,000 Km. Definitely had enough oil, though the radiator was leaking so could have overheated. Do you thing the overheating could be the culprit? Everything seems to move and flow normally when I crank the engine by hand
@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 10 жыл бұрын
It's not a lot for those engines. So,don't dismantle further. Try to start it first. even by pushing it. check if you have spark,fuel pressure,no vacuum leaks. what happened exactly ? when ? problems before that ?

Looks like you've done this before. I have to write down everything I do, if I go very far in disassembly.
@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 7 жыл бұрын
I've done few things of this kind,yes. Maybe you should take the risk to write nothing down,you will force yourself to remember what goes where. It maybe depends on the kind of memory you use,photographic,or an other kind,to help you in the chronology and location of parts. try to take some (controlled) risks it will help you maybe : )

Interesting thing about memory. I found I can remember three measurements on a tape measure, two by regular memory, and third measurement I just "see".

It's something i can't. Very difficult for me to remember or use numbers,even just two or three : ) I use photographic memory ,i can locate or direct myself pretty well in space or parts on a whole ,but the names or numbers are a pain for me lol I think we use different kinds of memory : ) When i adjust valves, i have to write it down and look at it a bunch of times for each valve... i'm quite bad at math of course lol

There are screws ,and certainly sealant,so it's not coming easily. The seal around the cranck position signal wheel create some reisistance also. No need for a specific position,just be sure you do not forget a screw,and pry gently all around equally to remove it.

@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 9 жыл бұрын
Julian Gonzales New exhaust valves are expensive on this bike, 80 each....3 of them here. But the rest is just clips,nuts or bolts,wich are cheap. So, about few hundred for a good running engine once repaired and 450 for the bike itself before to repair. I would say under 1000 easily : )

so how much km were on this engine to be in this state? how bad did it run with that broken valve?
@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 6 жыл бұрын
The odometer said 77 000 kms when i bought it. It was a cop or gendarmerie bike,used by a private person then,for i don't know how much time. It ran quite ok even on nearly three cylinders. You wouldn't even tell if you are not used to the engine running properly. It was just stalling if you revved it quickly. It was badly maintained,dirty injector caused that i think. A lean mixture will ruin valves quite fast.

@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, Whatever smaller battery from an other bike with fuel injection is ok. As long as you have a similar crancking amps it's ok. K75 have big alternators ,and do not use that much current to run. I have installed a 12 amps per hour battery one month ago on mine,wich is smaller than the stock one. You just need to adapt the retaining clamp to the different dimensions of your new battery,wich is quite easy to do,and check the terminals ,to be sure you can screw the wirings on it.

@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 4 ай бұрын
@@williambarkhouse3965 If you park the bike on the side stand,yes,it's normal,the oil will sit in the cylinder,and burn on start up. If it's while you are on the center stand,just check compressions first,it can maybe only be valve guides seals wich are not sealing enough anymore. There is a lot of sudden vacuum when the engine is starting,so oil can be sucked by there.

black exhaust valves= fuel burnt with not enough oxygen, not unburnt, just less oxygen available for carbon to bond with so rather than CO u get a lot of C (carbon).
@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 10 жыл бұрын
Here,the valve was missing a piece. 2 bars of compression on this cylinder certainly don't allow a good combustion. I doubt the cylinder was participating to the engine rotation. The valve was wet,not just black of soot. A part of fuel was maybe burning,but not all of it. The smell of gas was present in the exhaust fumes. That's why i wrote unburnt. It's not just running "rich" it's not running at all lol : )

tpvalley Yes,to be present on the market on the middle size engines (750cc) category. It's lighter,very smooth and built to roll a long time. That's why it was used in the police/gendarmerie here. This one is an ex police or gendarmerie : )

Dude I need your advice. I recently bought a k75 1989 and after 150 km a rubbing high pitch sound started to sound. Depending on the rpm it was higher or lower pitch. It looked that something was touching/rubbing something. Something that rotates depending of the rpm of the engine. It came suddenly and first time when off when I put the stand on. It started again and went of in a left turn. Third time I decided to accelerate and went off and as sudden as it came it disappeared. It looks that the sound was coming from the valve side. Do you know what can it be? Thanks a lot

@michaelovitch
@michaelovitch 5 жыл бұрын
@@gonzalosimon4274 Like you say,your problem occurs when the bike moves. So it's something wich has some play in it,and wich grinds when loose. Since it's related to the engine rpm,i would say that you need to check the timing chain,if it's not loose. Check your oil level. A video would help.
