Might be a good all rounder, but then again there are a lot of those on the market now. Nothing sets it apart from the competition anymore. I don’t think any visual mods can fix the overall proportions of the car, the shape is not like a BMW at all. Real shame for those of us hoping for a next gen M140, looks like we will be holding onto ours for a while!

Would 100% have the M140. Worst thing is the way the new M135 looks, almost like a lower 2 series active tourer. Two reasons I bought my ‘16 M135 were for the 3.0 6 cylinder and RWD, new one doesn’t have this so I don’t see what’s appealing over an A35 / S3 honestly

I'm pretty sure the new BMW m135i shares a mini engine. So definitely not a step forward in terms of performance. Also looks faster doesn't mean goes faster.

For all the 140 owners get over it on a back road blast the m135 handles better and is a better car than the 140 and the 140 looked dated when it came out. M135 still fun in a different way. I know had a 140 and ordered a M135 I will not miss the 6 cylinder on the roads I drive on. Tuning companies it will have 400bhp out of the m135 lump in a year I have a jcw mini that runs almost 360bhp so it will get at least that with a tune. Go and drive it you will be surprised. It did me and I orded one. The 140 is the last of that great engine it's time to move on its now dead but please go drive the new m135 don't just jump on the bandwagon of haters get your own opinion then make your own choices.

Ok, so, the 40 looks a bit old now in the interior, but there are things that I like more from it: the steering wheel, the cluster even though is not fully digital, the seats material, I'm not into alcantara. from the 35 I like the ambient light, the console and newer graphics interface. It seems like the features interface is the same though, I also have weather info in my 140. The interior design I find it more pleasant in the 135. In the mechanical side, I like more a RWD than an AWD simply for fun, although if you could send 100% of the power to the rear wheels (like the M5 I think) in that 135 I'll go for it. At the end I'll keep my 140 because of the engine, transmission and traction, but I'll probably get one used 135 in the future for my lady :P

I prefer the blue one with its inline engine set up and I don’t care how much more power comes from a 4 pot,I’d take sound and displacement any day,my e34 sounds amazing and has a fair bit of torque but I’ll still loose to a mondeo diesel but I don’t care one bit 👍🏻🇬🇧

Side profile I have to double look to make sure the new 1 series shape isn't the new ford focus. Too boring and the front is ghastly the bottom air intake is too wide and reminds me F20/F30 SE model front ends.

M135i isn't DCT, it's an automatic made by Aisin. The smaller engine models have a DCT

Last Gen looks really dated already. Great updates by Motech to make the F40 look its best exterior wise and address its weakness.

The Problem with new F40 1-Series compared to F20 LCI is that the F40 only looks good when you have the M Sport bodykit, otherwise it looks like a compact Mini Van from Asia or simply a sportier variant of the 2-Series Active Tourer, which is worse enough. The F20 LCI looks good regardless the exterior trim you have, elegant, sporty, masculine and premium. The F40 with the M-body looks aggressive and sporty, but nothing of the traditional elegant, luxurious and sporty BMW style. I also very dislike the immensley lower and slimmer center console and armrest in the F40, the F20 gives you that nicely cockpit feeling dividing the driver and passenger giving each his/her own compartment with a nice comfortable driving due to the high and wide center console and armrest. The F40 became a generic, visually over modified 4-Banger Fatass from the asian car industry. Fatass because of the significant shorter bonnet, shorter and high rising hood and the rising window line, which sadly eliminates the elegant luxurious linear masculine lines. After awhile I started to find the exterior pretty okay again with the M-Body only, but still the design just gives it a fat rear from certain angles as if he ate too much and gained the butt and hips Kim Kardashian and this isn't a compliment. The F40 has generic and common body silhouette you see from asian car brands, if it wasn't for the premium interior you could replace it with any other compact car such as i30, Ford Focus, Kia Ceed, Seat Leon...

The 1 series has always been quite an ugly car but the new grille really ruins the design of the new one which otherwise isn't as gopping as the rest. I'd say the biggest difference between them is the awd/rwd rather than the engine. No manual is a big no-n. Autos are for the elderly.

The new m135i is a great car at almost 40k fully loaded, 2 litre 4 pot engine, 4 wheel drive and 300hp like all the similar offerings from VW Audi and Merc. The m140i is showing its age with its old B58 3 litre 6 cylinder turbo and let's not mention the old ZF 8 speed both used in other bigger more expensive cars from BMW

The outer shape of the new bmw m135i looks really ugly and it looks like something is gone wrong in developing a new shape. It looks like some awful ugly cheap cars in some third world countries. The interior design and features are good but for a car the first impression always goes first to the external shape. The shapes of the old bmw m135i, now on the bmw m140i looks so slick and sporty.

BMW originally developed the B58 to produce 440+ bhp, then pegged the performance back to distance it from proper M cars. These are very strong and under stressed engines, and typically produce about 360bhp stock with a great deal more torque than other 2 litre engines on the market
