As a brz owner I love the M2. It’s an awesome small light rwd coupe. Definitely my type of bmw if I was to get one. Not a fan of big over luxurious, disconnected land boat sedans/crossovers. Driving enjoyment basic cars like this are more needed in the world.

I'm pretty impressed by the performance of the baby M. Laptimes are same or faster than the M4 on most tracks. I think you can't really compare it to the CLA or the RS3. It's in another league.

+Fernando Alvarado Yes. A good analysis of the differences would be great. Sounds like the seats in the m235 might be more comfortable than in the M2. But, otherwise, the ride in the M2 is not too stiff. A full comparison would be very worthwhile. Thanks.

One mistake referring to "analog"...auto-blip. That's just terrible. Should be an on/off feature and not tied into the sport button function.

It does sit somewhere between an A45 and a Cayman. Definitely more of a driving machine than the AMG but not quite on the level of the Cayman. But as a Porsche and Mercedes guy, I'm glad that BMW finally made a great M car again!

The way that thing corners is pure beauty. Picking between the Cayman R and the M2 would be tricky. Picking between the Cayman GT4 and the M2 would be easy :D

+Malteser3535 I agree but my choices would probably be the inverse of yours ;) I'd take the Cayman R because of the mid-engine but I'd get the M2 over the GT4 because the GT4 is manual only. It's the reason why I cancelled my GT4 pre-order after all and picked the GTS, which I'd also take over the M2. But I'd take the M2 over the A45 and especially the dull RS3. It's without a doubt the best BMW currently.

That figure includes a driver with luggage and 90% fuel, which called Unladen EU kerb. It is 1495kg, 3295lb (1520kg, 3350lb auto) Unladen DIN kerb (with 90% fuel and no driver or luggage). It is important to know what is included in a weight figure because there are different standards of what is included. I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of these older M2's vs the M2 Competition? Ive heard these older ones have a better sounding engine and more tunable perhaps? Its only what I've heard .... any other more knowledgable feedback is welcome

S55 is the more tunable, high end RPM power engine. The N55 is less tunable, and sounds better. The C is more a straight track car with enough comforts for the road whereas the base M2 is more of a low end torque “toy”. Also it’s 150 lb lighter but not nearly as tunable

I hate how so many new cars have "bespoke tires." That just means the tires are expensive and probably only found at the dealer. Some car company should make a small sports car/track car based around good, easy to find, and affordable tires (or like designed for a racing series specific tires.)

I agree the M235i is a great car and the M2 is a greater car. BUT I don't think the M2 vs M235i in terms of price is worth the difference. In Australia you're talking $25-30k difference (105k+ for the M2), in the UK it's £10k difference. That's 25% more (that's sticker price, obviously M235i have alot more negotiation room over a newly introduced M2) Regardless of discounts, I really don't think the M2 is 25% better car, especially for day to day drivers who don't track their cars. M2 lacks adaptive suspension as well (which explains the sore back) I find it hard for those like myself who are in a M235i already, to justify upgrading as well, considering the lack of upgrades between the 2 cars, especially interior. For a half the amount, you can easily upgrade suspension, full exhaust, brakes, LSD and flash tune, which will make it better and faster. BUT you don't get the flared arches tho... which is the killer. The M2 do look alot better.

M3/4 are now high-end, expensive big luxury performance cars. Not as much drivers/sports cars as they used to. Just look at the segment of buyers. That role is now shifted to the 2-series. It might not be as fast as Focus RS or Audi RS3 point to point but it's easily the best drivers car in this segment and as mentioned can be both comfortable and sporty (just opt for another seat). Focus RS is simply to harsh to enjoy daily, RS3 is not a sports car but very fast point to point and A45 AMG is just to expensive for what it offers. The next car a step below M2, that wins over it's competitors in the same ways as M2, is actually Seat Lone Cupra.

I wanted to buy this car and I'm so glad all the journalists keep coming out with the same complaints and reasons I made not to order one. Went for a Cayman S with ventilated seats and it is way more fun and precise than any crooked seat M2.
