I got my M2 2017 one and a half year ago. It is just the best car I ever had. No problems at all. I added a Wagner Evolution 2 intercooler, HJS downpipe, aluminium charge pipes and it was tuned to a healthy 430 bhp. This car is not only just a gorgeous car. It is just the perfect car to have, if you want a daily drive and a track tool combined. This is the first car, that I will hopefully keep forever.

i have a f87 n55 m2 too in that color as a nürburing track tool. i cant stress it enough, for under 100k this is the best track car imo. btw dont be fooled that the og m2 has a n55. its a real race engine nd was developed by the m division for the cup racing series of the m235i racing cup by bmw motorsport which is now the m2 cs cup series. the engine is great and can handle just as much power relaible as an s55 or b58 on the track (i know some hill climb teams running 750 to 850hp on their cars for years without problems). the m division made this n55 a real power house for the track and by that raised the dafety factors of all the components by a lot. so the engine got a sleeved block (not closed deck needed for big power), s55 forged internals (s55 pistons and rod and unique crankshaft), s55 main and rod baerings, s55 dry oil sump pump, s55 vlavles and cams, inhanced cooling and around 20 other changes. plus the m4 axles, trans and diff with all the cooling and you got a superb track car and a really fun road car. i drove all f gen m cars (m4, m4 comp, m3 comp, og m2 and m2 comp) and the og m2 is straight up the most fun to drive because of the single turbo with all its tuner sounds and you feel like you get hit when pressing the gas. in the s55 cars it feels more like an NA car. i am now at 650 hp (530hp on the track since i like it more at this level on the nürburgring). pretty much fbo and bigger turbo and full track suspension set up, its a blast.... power, sound and handling is crazy for a simple 4 eater coupe since i am smoking pretty much any 991.2 gt3 withut a worry, even if the driver is skilled ;)
@ninjatux8 ай бұрын
I commend your enthusiasm as a fellow f87 owner ('17), but the n55 never received a dry sump oil system. They use an electric vacuum pump to maintain consistent oil pressure needed for track use, but it is not as robust of an oil cooling system as the s55. This is the same part as was used in the cup 235i you mentioned and it works well, but that actual racing engine does not share the other parts from the s55 you mentioned the m2 getting. You are correct that the block is open even though the marketing material I received when I ordered the car new says in print closed deck block. There was talk of a law suit when they first released the car due to this, but I don't think anything came of it.

Been waiting for this review for some time now. As usual, you guys have done an excellent job. On the topic of Apple Car Play, there were no problems with the install on my 2018 M2C. My only complaint is that the software allows for a split screen only. Should you be hellbent on getting that sorted you can go down the path of seeking out a solution like Bimmercode. Specifically on the M2C, owners such as myself addressed the car's rear appearance. The rear muffler's unsightly look has often been singled out as just plain 'butt ugly' earning descriptions such as 'cow's udder' or as I like to refer to it as the 'hemorrhoid'. Some just painted it black whilst others like myself had the rear section changed completely. This is without doubt the best car I've owned and I'm 60years old. The best description I have for this baby 'M' car is - it's a go-kart with number plates on it for the street! Keep up the great work as I look forward to your next review.

Equipped with the ultimate version of the N55 (N55B30T0, with S55 crankshaft, fuel injectors, pistons, variable valve lift system, oil pan, additional cooling etc.) the OG M2 appears to be relatively reliable (~5 years ownership, no performance mods) due to its back to basics principles (no fancy stuff irrelevant to driving fun) - it has the F82 M4 chassis and suspension (without the adaptive suspension bits). The only thing broken was the plastic charge pipe, OF COURSE! Even at as low as 20k KMs. I've replaced the charge pipe, boost & turbo inlet pipes with proper aluminium ones, I'd also recommend replacing the stock FMIC (stock one has plastic connectors...) if you want to tune it for more power (stage 2 more further). One annoying problem with the RHD models are the positions of the 3 pedals (offset too much to the right), damn, the brake position is ND MX-5's gas pedal! After watching the video, I decided to keep the OG M2 in my garage for longer, until it is too expensive or too much trouble to maintain, otherwise I'd regret selling such an amazing & handsome coupe with such great pop & bangs (backfire with stock exhaust) looking back, the $ won't change anything, but I'll never be able to buy the same (equivalent) car back.

@@Inspherespacei track my m2, buy 513m 18 wheels (f series stock 18 wheels) they are light, forged, yet cheap. change brake pad to ferodo de 2500 if you are a rookie because of easy modulation if not a beginner use ds 1.11, better brake fluid, braided brake lines and add extra cooling to them stock rotor is fine. If you buy 200tw tyres like mrf ztr, nankang crs, they are cheap and also not in the slow category, and will be good for 10-13 trackdays( i do not drive more than that per year) a camber plate in the front is neccessary to reduce front tyre wear. These only and you are good to go. Every 3rd to 4th trackday change the motor oil, brake fluid per year. Not a costly thing in my book.

I had an opportunity to trade my 370Z for this exact car, after I test drove it, it was good especially in its stock form. My car is pretty modified and feels good also. It was a good comparison but ultimately I thought about cost and reliability. I owned a Z3 from the past and the one thing I couldn't over come was repairs that cost a serious premium. To be fair the Z3 was used and technically should of been considered a salvage title, but seeing the cost and upkeep first hand made me very hesitant. Ultimately the M2 was left on the show room and we brought a brand new 430i, I still have the 370Z and it is a great bit if old school charm. Im satisfied with it, and I believe that is a hard thing for car enthusiast to claim. Great review by the way! I want to address the retrofit of Android Auto or carplay comments in this and the F15 X5 video from a week or so ago. It is actually fairly straightforward and does work pretty well. The issue is not with the car but with the huge number of options available making it hard to know which one to get and therefore resulting in a wide range of user experiences. Long story short, the best option is either a piggy back unit from a reputable manufacturer like Andream or Bimmer-tech that sits between the head unit and the screen (sometimes called an MMI), or a replacement screen with it built in. Again Andream make good options as well as bimmer-tech or AVIN. I have successfully installed the Andream MMI in my 2014 F15 X5 M50d with great results.

G87 M2 is better than the F22 M240i, and the M240i is better than the F22 M2. I plan get to a 2020-2021 M240i as my next car someday. If I get super rich, I will skip that and buy a G87 M2. There is no point in getting an F22 M2 at this point. 1. G87 M2 2. F22 M240i or G42 M240i 3. F22 M2.

Yeah I was thinking the mach 1 or the m2 competition and the last BMW I had was a E30 325i and I loved it and I was looking into m2 competition to buy or the mach 1 and I might just buy a m2 competition I always love the driving experience of BMW and I couldn't go wrong with the E30 back then but I always love mustangs too but I'm really loving the m2 competition

You can install carplay in any BMW CNC, ID5. 6 or 7 by buying the little box thing I used to run in my old 3 series!

Regarding the whole Android Auto thing, I know it's not ideal but there are certain chinese boxes that do both Wireless Android Auto and Wireless Carplay, but they 'speak' carplay to the infotainment. For about 50 usd is worth a shot

Open pore carbon fibre in the interior there. Also, don't think those front seats are heated. And the LCI update, for a period until mid 2018, was also available as non-competition. Great car. Looked at the Comp (also M3/M4 in late 2018) when it came out but instead went for the M2 (LCI, non-comp). A real drivers car.

I have an OG M2, front seats and steering wheel are heated and heated very well. Extremely comfortable on a cold day. Is it different in your market?

@@JOEM747 Must be. AUS spec cars don't have these options.

For those who are happy with 300+ ish hp I would say go for B58 M240i. Those are even cheaper and really reliable.
@tellyawhatmate Жыл бұрын
True, but just dont look the same though.. no pumped guards.. Like the version your mom tells you ‘we have at home’
@xxzmk Жыл бұрын
@@tellyawhatmate Yeah I know what you mean. The car is way less wider, plus it still weighs just as much as a 3 series with the same engine. Its still one of the reasons I would go for a 340i over a M240i. But considering the fact, that the shorter wheelbase and coupe makes the car more fun to drive, I would still take it every day. Though the interior quality of a 2 series coupe of those years is lacking a little behind the F30 and F10 Series.

I’ll take the m240i cabrio over the standard M2… 90% of the car, topless motoring and softer suspension. More useable everyday.

@Mrmark1548 ай бұрын
@@Chris-nj1mr yup… more useable everyday. Not as harsh as the full M spec. Compromised to make it more accessible. I’m not a racing driver and wouldn’t track this sort of car, so the 240i suits me better.

Neither the M2 or gen2 brz/86. M2 is classic euro long term unreliability and the new twins have a fatal flaw of insufficient oil coverage of the engine leading to catastrophic engine failure. Post facelift gen 1.5 86/brz is the way to go, they are bulletproof when stock.
