Love to see what these tyres are like in the damp / wet compared to the a052
@GabrielePiana8 ай бұрын
Hey! Yeah, while it would be interesting there is alwasy so much variability under damp and wet conditions that it is very difficult to control a test. Dry conditions are much more consistent, you can sort of produce a useful result. In wet/damp the results can be skewed heavily by sligthly more or less water, tires are more sensitive to temperature changes etc. A052 and CR-S are quite similar in thread pattern hence both not ideal in standing water. Beside this, the CR-S is specifically designed to be more stable at higher loads than the previous AR-1s meaning that are designed for bigger sizes and heavier more powerful cars. A big step also was done in consistency and road manners. It's just a huge steps from AR-1s in all departments, maybe with the exception of super light cars but this needs to be tested. I have no metric to compare A052 and CR-S as far as compound specs and feel, which would be the only determining factor under damp conditions, would be indeed an interesting test.
@KevMk38 ай бұрын
@@GabrielePiana really interesting insight. I think with my 1000kg car I've struggled with nankang tyres as a whole in damp / wet situations but was hoping as they are like the a052 they could provide better non dry weather feeling shall we say over others.
@GabrielePiana8 ай бұрын
@@KevMk3 yeah lets not beat around the bush here, the goal for Nangkang is to build a tires that's up there with Trofeo R, Cup 2 and the like. They achieved it 100%, very high performance with good streetability, the tires performed mega on all cars but we are always talking about 1500kg cars with 300bhp minimum. I dont know how they would work on a 450kg Caterham or even a 900kg Lotus as I have not driven these tires in such conditions.

Awesome video. How were the lap times calculated? Did all 3 cars start at the same speed when they crossed the stsrting line? It didmt seem like they did, which is wjy i ask.
@GabrielePiana7 ай бұрын
Laptimes are calculated as they normally are, from start to finish line of the lap. All the cars are coming in "flying" from the preparation lap before, no difference between the conditions beside, of course, the cars have different power levels.
@andydhillon19777 ай бұрын
@GabrielePiana I see. I always wondered about that method. I'm curious if there would've been any difference had the cars all started at the same speed while crossing the starting line. It never made sense to me to have the cars start at different speeds. Anyway, I enjoyed the video!
@GabrielePiana7 ай бұрын
@@andydhillon1977this would be an unrealistic way to measure times since it’s a scenario that would never exist in real life. Regardless, the difference would most likely be the same since the cars would accelerate from whatever set speed one would decide at different rates depending on their performance. All laps would be slower but the gap in between them would be relatively the same.

Manual requires additional work and feels more engaging for sure, but a paddle shift frees the driver up to do left foot braking and this increases control and ultimately performance. For the road, for enjoyment, manual forever. Pure speed and control, paddle shift.

Great video again guys 💪 As you already said this tyre is faster then a AR1, but the AR1 has its place! Today we found out in Time Attack on Zandvoort we were faster on the CRS in the longer stints but because they need 1 lap more warmup the AR1 is the better tyre in the finals (out/hot/inlap configuration) but the CRS even performed better on a lightweight car 930kg just like i felt myself last year on the ring with 1100kg car 👊
@GabrielePiana7 ай бұрын
This is interesting news, as we expected AR1s to be better on light cars. Out/Hot/In is crazy, you dont even do it in racing, you need chewing gum to do that :D
@kayhesse7 ай бұрын
@@GabrielePiana yeah thats with a TimeAttack final round, it is! But thats where the AR1 is faster, the driver continued the 1/3 sector on the throttle and that sector the CRS was faster again. So lets say even on light cars after 3-4min the CRS is faster and keeps this pace far longer as expected.

Disclaimer, not an advertisement for Nangkang. The CR-S is performing at a level way beyond Cup2, we are talking of a tire that is in the same league as a Trofeo R and just marginally slower than a Cup 2R. You simply cannot expect this level of performance to be costing much cheaper than it does. The biggest challeng for the brand is to actually get recognized for what it is, a VERY HIGH performing tire that is right up there with the very best the market can offer. Brand recognition is not there yet, we agree on this, but it's also part of the reason we decided to make this video, to showcase that the CR-S is a serious option. The gap between the CR-S and the AR-1 is huge, Nangkang did their homework. Of course Toyos and the like will be cheaper, but also a Fiat Panda is cheaper than a GT4RS. Different products with different performance envelopes and, arguably, different markets.

@GabrielePiana7 ай бұрын
why not? It shows that the CR-S can perform over a wide range of cars and layouts, it showcases the performance difference between the cars and might inform people that wondered how a FK8 once the fastest FWD car at the Ring actually performs on a normal race track against other cars. I think it's interesting and you got the chance to witness it for free!

gt3 992 had a 2.19 target, Gab did couple of small dirty stuff and lost 2 seconds so there is more there for sure, Gab even clearly said fuuuuuuck
@GabrielePiana8 ай бұрын
My man: 1- definitely there is a lot more lap time in the 992, but not the way it was on this day. I did 3 push laps, this was the fastest (although there is a couple of mistakes) and the theoretical within the three laps was not faster. 1:21.7 was theoretical time also, the next lap was driven with less mistakes but were not faster. 2- you can see the car is super twitchy, this is not particularly fast but I dont believe 2s. I am fully confident there is 1s in it with more stable rear because the car being very twichty clearle slows it down overall but there are parts of the track that would be slower with less front end. As I said, the theoretical was not faster (unlike some other cars you will see in pt2). The most costly mistake is last corner and that's 0.3 tenth worth. Exit of the Schickane also quite shit and thats another 0.2. That's 0.5, better setup you find another 0.5 (which is massive) and you have a 20 mid, which I think it's where the car can go. Sub 20 I dont see it on this day.
@andre82s2k8 ай бұрын
@@GabrielePiana i believe the track was not the ideal that day, not clean and lets say to cold, causes the most “lost grip” conditions, 992 gt3 sure have potential with just a little alignment adjustment, if was totally stock sure is not ideal but its the best porsche right now, the gt4rs if is with stock alignment isn’t faster(crazy understeer), the 991 RS if is setted its a easier car to drive so maybe will be the fast in the end of the “test” but will see! Like always there is something to improve, Maybe the answer is put Kostas driving ? Isn’t him the fastest?
