BMW M3 (E46) POV Canyon Run / RTD Shifter Review

In this video I try to get a canyon run, but a lot of traffic kept me from getting a proper run :/ soooooo this turned into a slight RTD shifter review. Both of which I've been getting requests to do so it worked out.

Great Video jin... your conversion video is so detailed and helpful. I would like to do the same for my E46 SMG too. Would you recommend doing the project without modifying the bell housing , by just using the self-centering RTD shifter ?

Hey, i got an rtd and it does that 1st gear thing. I’m not a fan, do you know if there’s any way to make it stay in place of 1st. I know a couple of friends with rtd’s and theirs doesn’t do it

did you go with poly trans and engine mounts as well? (80a, 95a?) If so are vibrations bad at idle or driving?

still have stock trans and engine mounts. however these were replaced recently

Dont do poly… only go poly for your suspension components with bushings. If you have a daily/street car you would want to just stick with solid rubber. The vibration can get rather excessively annoying during daily use with poly engine/trans/diff mounts

I bought this for my e92 335i too and had to take it out again because of an insane amount of noise (grinding noises through the shifter) From the video I can't really hear, but do you experience this?

I have the same noises coming from mine with an e46 M3 transmission.

@@lasse8907 it wasn't particularly bad until I put the DSSR in. I think because it is just basically billet aluminum and the spring puts load on it resonates a lot of noise from vibration that would usually be dampened. Thinking about taking the DSSR out for an OEM selector. It is kind of like poly bushings...m give you better feel but at the sacrifice of NVH.

But if you search through KZbin and reviews on Google I can't find anyone who mentions this issue, nor any videos where the sound of grinding is prominent, which leads me to believe that either the spring on mine is too tightly adjusted or the gearbox is bad. Ofc slight NVH is always going to be the case with it bolted to the chassis. I have also tried to reach out to RTD without luck. So I was hoping this guy would give some feedback 😁

@@lasse8907 I saw someone post a video on their 5 speed e36 with the same noise. I doubt the box is bad but who knows. Especially on your transmission they are the most durable manual trans BMW has pretty much ever made.

I’ve never personally had an issue with having a non lockout version, but keep in mind I have not track driven this thing. I would probably just think about what your plans are with the car and choosw from there

they’re fixed back on sliders, so I slide them all the way to the front to get in the back
