I hate this new trend of replacing buttons with a screen. Audi's climate menu is just awkward to use and feels a little flimsy. The climate buttons are probably the most used buttons in a car. Why would you have to navigate through a menu, while driving, to change anything? It's probably a lot cheaper to do this though, having nice aluminium buttons is classy but expensive. But it really staggers me that on a 100 grand car you need to use a touchscreen to change your heated seats. Seats are a bit silly too, the indiv napa seats are truly magnificent to sit in. Not really sure if I like this car. Will be amazing to drive, but struggling to find its identity.

As Chris Harris pointed out once, the German luxo brands aim these super-estates at the moneyed ski set who take regular trips to their Alpine chalet. That's why 4wd is a necessity. It's why we haven't seen a BMW version until now, and why Audi have been doing it for ever. And it's no good saying 'nonsense, I'd buy one' when, in all honesty, most of us wouldn't... because it's a hundred flipping grand. Sadly, we're not the target market. BMW just wants us to salivate with our noses pressed to the glass, then settle for a 320i.

BMW depends on the fact it will break and they will charge an arm and a leg for replacement parts they will derive handsome profit from. That is BMW's business model. Lap times on medium and smaller UK tracks slower than old early 2000s 200hp sports cars like s2000 and RX8. Run flat bmw garbage ride and no B-road manners whatsoever, the last BMW to be fast on a B-road was E46 the newer ones just get confused over small pot holes and changing cambers. The interior on this model 3 serious can be kicked off by accident and their engines are the worst of the worst. I'd rather have an old Jimny than any of the junk the Germans are making now. Proper fisher price junk car.

Hard disagree, an Audi RS6 or E63 AMG wagon will do everything this does and more without being ugly as sin. But they aren't the best all-rounder either because an all-rounder has to be able to tow and go offroad. As much as we car guys are loathe to admit it, in the current year where engineers are all but magicians the best all-rounder is going to sit a little higher and I think a comprehensive analysis considering all facets will likely reveal that the best all-rounder is the Porsche Cayenne. The fastest ones will match this M3 down a back road with mid 3 second 0-60 sprints and 1G+ skid pad numbers (the Cayenne Turbo GT is only 3 seconds slower around the nurburgring than this M3 estate, 7:38 vs 7:35), deliver proper sportscaresque chassis dynamics, feel, and feed back, fit 5 adults in comfort and luxury with the ride and NVH of an S class and build quality of a Porsche, offroad like a range Rover, tow as big a boat as you can get away with without permits (rated for 7,700 lbs), the hybrid models will do 30 mpg, and since the 2015 958.2 face-lift they look good too, all while being bullet proof reliable as well. I love fast wagons, they are my personal favorite form factor for a car but they don't do everything, they are not a one car solution for people like me who need to tow racecars, tractors, PWCs and boats and who sometimes need to go places that require more than a speedbumps amount of ground clearance. Still, I am very glad BMW built this. Hopefully they persist for future generations only make them, you know, not ugly...

Have few options on my mind, all much mlre afflrdable than m340i. Some of the options require a swap like Lexus IS300 sportcross(unless i go for weaker is200), others are super rare in exact configuration i want them in like Subaru Legacy 3.0R spec B. With few other options that come with some tradeoffs like Ford Modeo ST220 which is front wheel drive but has cable throttle still. I did think of e46 330xi/330i touring, but its hard to find a godo example nowadays and rep that bmw drivers have here, is something i dont want to affiliate myself with. it also comes short on one aspect i want it to have which is potential to be used for trip camping in it for 2 people. IS has trick with front seats folding flat, Legacy has just long and flat-ish space with rear seats folded. E46 has super steep incline with seats "folded" and its quite tight in the trunk to begin with. So even if it has potential to be more fun, it comes short in terms of practical side. Subaru XV/Impreza Hatch is what it has to eclipse. I am willing to give up awd for RWD, but it has to have something interesting and or useful. These few cars is what i consider now unless you know something else from 2000s that could work.

I'm glad that BMW finally makes an estate M3. But would I have it over the Audi RS4 Avant? That's a tough one.

Depends if you want a great looking car or a buck toothed BMW
@joebloggs4191 Жыл бұрын
Actually it's quite easy, for ultimate dynamics it's got to be the M3!

The complaints are all completely legit. Why does BMW think we want fiber speed bumps. And why are MFGs so dense about putting easy to use climate controls?!

Great review: slammed BMW for the looks and lack of buttons, but credit where it's due.

Who are they making cars for if the people who drive them complain that buttons are missing. Who in gods name wants to scroll to change the temp?!!!!!

There should be a rear seat delete option, to be replaced by a helmet store and a solution for the track wheelset you're running. then it would be properly cool!

You should just get the regular M3 then I think, the touring's charm is taking it around a track and skiing in the same week.

@@TimothyBoersma99 good point, and I totally agree. My point was more along the lines of BMW having those things on the options list as marketing devices. 99.999-100% of people would tick the box to have the seats put back in, but talk about theatre! And pointlessly arguing with your mistress about whether to have back seats or not. Give the M3 a bit of a sense of humour to overcome that God awful face

If you can‘t put a tow bar on it, is it really a (super)wagon?

I think it looks awesome, never used any of this touchscreen generation CC before though,

There's an opportunity this year for Audi to knock it out the park with the new s4/rs4. Especially the new S4 rumoured to be switching back to petrol.
