Great review, what a monster of a vehicle, clothed in a "station wagon" wrapping. Wow!, what joy running daily errands would be. Further, Lia adds a whole other element to the test, a warm voice, laughter as part of a mechanical concert. Cheers and carry on.....

Great review! I loved that you shot the beginning segment in late afternoon (or was it early morning?) sun to show off that beautiful paint job. Having previously owned a 3 series touring model for about 8 years I love this model and wished they would sell it in the US. I like the front end design and overall look of this M3, but I would prefer that the backend bulge around the exhaust/diffuser area be made less bulbous. Thanks again for taking us along for the ride.

I ordered the M3 Touring competition Xdrive a few weeks ago. To me, it is the sexiest of the M3 Sedan, M4, and M3 Touring.

Mein Kombi 3er Baujahr 2012 hatte ein Schaltgetriebe, das sehr angenehm zu fahren war. Das neue Schaltautomatikgetriebe scheint noch besser zu sein! Machen Sie weiter so mit Ihrer hervorragenden Arbeit

If BMW would sell this in the USA I might preorder. Currently driving a high spec 330 MSport wagon, nearly bought a Z4 M40i for weekend thrills...with M3 wagon would get the thrills + maintain the practicality....very impressive.

At last BMW has an estate version or station wagon of the M3 ! Great engine sound , cool interior, great performance but I'm not a fan of those bucket seats they look painful as hell to sit in with that thing in the middle ! I'd go with the normal seats here more comfort on long rides. Pitty the Americans won't get this uberwagon there . Anyway , super detailed review of this M3 Touring Thomas , keep up the great work man , bye bye !!!

Great review but Thomas showing his BMW bias big time The car is butt ugly - inside and out. The inside looks cheaper than a Nissan. The use of carbon fibre, especially in the seats, is so tacky BMW need to sack their car designers and start again

Another "Big Maintenance Worry", yes I've had two and learnt the hard way, looking at the engine bay I bet the engineering time dedicated to considering repair and maintenance and longevity could be less than a week of one graduate engineers time, it's all driven by sales and marketing and 3 year lease plans now, not bombproof quality engineering, it's all cheap, cheap, cheap past the nice feely, touchy buttons and steering wheel. How can a car be a financial write off because it needs a new head gasket!!!!!!, total shite engineering! And I've still not warmed to the hideous front end, and the fact the number plate's just stuck on as an afterthought with a bit of gorilla glue, only someone from sales and marketing could have designed the front end. Just saddens me to see the way BMW has gone, once a company driven by good engineering principals and engineers, small compact, quality cars. The new BMW Vision Neue Klasse Concept looks amazing but once sales and marketing take the design from the engineers, the grill will expand to monstrous proportions and all the good design will be replaced will cheap plastic most likely. Although financially for me BMW making super-ugly, low quality, poorly designed cars is kinda good, because I never see one any more and feel I really want to spend loads of my hard earned money on one.

Well, yes, um, sort of . The past BMW cars of say the 90's late 80's were built with super quality materials to last many many years . The engines were also quality long lasting and virtually never failed if you did the required maintenance on them. Now a lot of plastic is inside that engine bay , plastic plastic everywhere . It cheap , quick to put on but after a couple thousand miles, gets brittle, breaks and fails ,making that engine vulnerable to failing. I think it's not just BMW many car manufacturers are putting more cheap plastic in those engine bays and causing the engines to fail sooner. It's a sign of the times to put out lots of cars into the market for sales and marketing but causes huge repair bills for their owners later!!!

Cars are ridiculously expensive and now that the cheap finance has gone, I wonder how easily manufacturers will shift stock. By any measure, £100k+ seems crazy to me for what is ultimately a 3-series platform vehicle. I’d love one of these but it cost double what I paid for a used F90 M5…
