It's also the price of a supercar but without the frills. I own a BMW car and a S1000RR and wonder who in their right mind would spend 140k+ on an M5? And as much as it pains me to say it, the engineering if often found lacking as they regularly have serious (read very expensive) reliability issues. I love BMW but think they've lost their collective minds pricing a admittedly fantastic saloon at that price.

The 6th gear roll was so impressive. This blew my mind when I got my first supersport bike. In my small car on a medium speed road that begins to incline, I need to downshift and keep revs up just to maintain speed. On the bike you can chill in 6th gear and still accelerate while climbing, on half a throttle too hahah.

Yes, you can be lazy on a super bike if you want to - was riding my s1000r on country roads yesterday, with limited overtaking places and half the time I could not be arsed dropping out of 6th to get around a string of cars. BMW knows how to build a tractable 1000cc engine with an epic top end of you ever want to go and play.

Yeah wait till you see him on his own bike. People forgetting he's riding bikes he's not used to and still gets them going just about as fast as someone who owns them and knows how to get them off the line. My current bike I've only been to santa pod twice, when I just not long got it my fastest was 10.3 something after 5 runs, the last time out I was in the late 9s by the 2nd run. Fastest 9.89sec done on the 5th pass.

The never ending challenge between Bike and sportcar. When i was young , i never beleive that a car can beat a bike. After that i have understood the effect of the size of the tires and the aerodynamic loading on Formula cars. On a track race (ring) the bike is not able to follow the formula one . The main reason is that the Formula is faster in bend with 500 kg of aerodynamic load . Thank you MAT for this "difficult" drag race.

B58 especially is a disgraceful engine, melts everything around it before either throwing a chain or inhaling it's own oil filter or it's abysmal Plasma Arc plated cylinder wall breaks up at the top 1" portion. You'd need to be off yer head to tune one they last about 3 weeks on a stage 1

There's a simple math motorist should do before messing with a motorcycle: divide horsepower by weight. One comes to the conclusion that the motorcycle has about 3 times as much horsepower per kilogram as the car and saves a humiliation 😉

Cars have really come on in the past ten years or so. Superbikes, and lightweight cars like Caterhams, used to win these sorts of tests easily. The E39 M5 was a similar weight, 1700kg, but had only 400bhp! It was launched at the same time as the first Yamaha R1, which was massively faster. In that year too we had the Caterham R500 with 500bhp/tonne - I suspect this latest M5, and certainly the 911 Turbo, would beat that too.

Missing the point of the M a bit. The standard s1000RR is only 2bhp less and 1.5kg heavier, to all intents and purposes it would equalt the M on the drag strip. at almost half the price. On a circuit with a good rider it would be different, but you could have used the S1000RR and the value equation would have been very different. Fun though

M5 done a 10.8 on the same strip. What you need to remember is how badly the performance tanks on newer German cars, their engines are just not up for it so they loose power at a rapid rate. B58 being the worst offender.

A prime example of the difference between cars and bikes. You have to literally dump thousands into a car so that it can even stand a chance of keeping up with superbikes all the while sacrificing reliability. When you can just buy a 1000cc 250hp superbike off the showroom floor with a power to weight ratio of 1:1 not to mention older bikes that are also insane witha few bolt on cheap mods 🤣 Car drivers will never understand that bikes are superior and always will be 👍

Bike is set up with really good balance for handling, which is a cost when setting off and needing traction on the rear. I remember riding a Buell and being challenged by someone on a blade. Off the line, my rear heavy bike nailed it, as soon as he had the power down he reined me back in.
