Video great,no doubt. Car however,except for that engine,taken directly from Formula 1,is pathetic. Fault codes come so often,that taking a car for a spin around the hood,and going back home without a faulty light is considered as a very,very lucky day,that deserves a glass of exclusive wine.Not to mention,that servicing that engine can put even person with above average incomes to the cleaners. Its a V10 from Formula 1,so you make calculations. About the design i wont talk about,its very personal,but for me,it just doesnt correspond with BMW philosophy. Interior is absolute crap. Cheap plastic materials,cheap leather,cheap knobs,and the driver oriented dash is...gone. So what we are left with is one engine and gearbox with 1480078 settings to make so I Pad maniac happy. There is nothing legendary about this car. And will never be. The only legendary M cars,that earned its glory and reputation over time,are E34 and E30. Cars made to last. Cars where the driver is in control,not the electronics.

I am the proud owner of the exact M5 that is in this movie. Having owned an/or driven (hard) several Porsches, a Lancia Integrale and F355, the E60 is a unique combo of supercar performance w/ executive sedan luxury that seats 4-5. Kristen is right. It is the last of the iconic aspirated V10's. Just KZbin it and see video after video of it blowing away GT3's, Gallardo's, etc. Just dropped a Maserati today, made it look like it was in park. This car is iconic.

@cloudcata9210 жыл бұрын
Why would you want to switch to a f10? The e60 is so beautiful
@militia81410 жыл бұрын
There e60 is defiantly designed with the driver in mind. The f10, to me is more based around a luxury car with a lot of power. I will always love my e60 over the f10. Sometimes I just feel like dct would be nice, and the little things the F10 offers would be cool. I find myself driving my m5 more often like a normal car than a super sports sedan. I would enjoy the f10 "around the town" driving more than I would my e60.

My neighbour bought an Silver E60 M5 in 2006, he sold it in 2013 with about 47.520 miles with everything stock. I drove it on several occasions and it was magnificent, but the engine was the masterpiece of this car, absolutely astonishing, the power, the torque and the sound of the V10, absolutely intoxicating. But the problems of that engine being derived from a F1 car, into a road car, were so disappointing, that he rarely drove the M5 in all in its glory, and the pain of getting the problems fixed, was getting worse as the bills went up. He didn´t sell the car way earlier because he liked it very much as i do, but in July 2013, he decided to end the experience of a lifetime. Such a sad story because of that glorious V10. why BMW?? Why you didn't make the engine more reliable, i´m sure it would be possible. Now we live in a era of turbocharging, and smaller engines with less cylinders, cars like the E60 M5, Audi RS6 V10 twin-turbo, etc, will never appear soon in the future, and that makes me sad. But the thing is i´m blessed that i live trough an era that theses cars existed, and had the opportunity to drive one of theses cars. Because all good things come to an end.

Mercedes still makes the v12 twin turbo cl65 , now called s65 coupe.... same engine since 2004. One of the best v12's.
@skulltrailRFL8 жыл бұрын
Yes the glorious V12 Mercedes is also a beast of a engine, but will it last a few years more? I think they would be dropping the V12 engine soon in favour of a V8 TT, but that´s a rumour coming from my uncle who works at one of Mercedes factory plant in germany.
@whispercars3068 жыл бұрын
It might continue as it is rival of the aston martin and Bentley which still have v12's. You can pick a late model 2009-2011 CL65 for good price or a 2007 v10 m5/m6.
@104thDIVTimberwolf5 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with the engine, in the end, turned out to be very simply solved; BMW recommended the wrong oil. The 10w/60 was too viscous to flow through the tight bottom end tolerances, causing flow problems thT killed main bearings and VANOS pumps. I know T least 3 S-85 owners who have switched to 0w/30 or /40 and have cars that as reliable as any Honda.

I have owned E39 M5 almost ten years now. Today, I finally got a chance to try out a near mint example of E6O M5 LCI with around 58Ohp (measured, has some mods). It blew my mind. 🤯 The S85 engine dominates every single second of driving. It’s a masterpiece. Sound brings back memories from that great era of V-1O F1 engines. Once again - this video kicks ass! Came back right after when done with driving. 😎

She is a GREAT FUN CAR, I see the extra front scoops behind the kidney grills, I wonder if this puppy has had a modified exhaust system, with headers & CATLESS ..... add that with a RE-MAP and you truelly get 'BRUTAL' over 6000 rpm. I love going into M mode and see my passengers heads vilantly getting jerked around as you change from 1st-2nd-3rd ..... and the sound ..... well, nothing like it!

If you’ve watched this video because your thinking of purchasing one just go out and buy one because it’s a fantastic car plus they are now starting to rise in price ...I’m an owner of 3 years ( late 2007 LCI model) it’s been super reliable don’t listen to the lemonade boys that are to tight to maintain these monsters then start to post negative comments any owner will state the same comment as I have , preventative maintenance is the key factor of course and warm the engine and gearbox keeping the revs below 3k that’s the secret to longevity of this engine plus when looking to buy go for a full Bmw service history or Bmw specialist history which is just as good I would walk away if both of these are missing as simple as that , the main things to consider is throttle actuators will need to be replaced and of course the rod bearings .... the gearboxes are bulletproof unless they have been mistreated again warm the car up slowly and in between driving let it have a cooling period this helps the clutch as well and PS this is a weekend enthusiasts car not a daily runner which some people claim ..enjoy 😎🇬🇧👌

I am aware of that. I lived with this car back in 2006 and it was a pain in the ass under normal driving circumstances, especially in the city. When driven hard, like in your video here, it was truly something special. An excellent car, but my point is, it is very much an automatic. It sports a single-clutch automated "manual transmission", which granted is not your normal AT, but I would not consider it a manual, unless it came with a proper stick, like it did in the US. PS Great video :)
