It was the "old-fashioned" automatic gearboxes: robotic single-clutch gearboxes (a sort of mechanical gearbox controlled by a computer) It's HELL but the sound of the 5-litre V10 is an ORGASM

I bought a 2005 M5 with 80k on clock and og rod bearings, did 15,000 miles myself including many a blast like this down the local dual carriageway embarrassing supercars of the time and all it did was use a litre of oil every 1000 or so miles! The SMG behaved fine as well. Maybe i got lucky but damn i miss the car. Not the running costs though... this is more expensive to run than most £100k cars today

Doesnt matter if een old BMW M5 E61 shifts 'horrible' or is slower then a new AMG/RS6 etc.. that BMW V10 is a beast, and it will always be a beast no matter what. It will be a collectors item bcs V10 engine.

@@MyRealName They are actually not that bad. Like here in norway there is even a couple of 1000+ hp builds, i know atleast of 2 that one is used for drifting. The other one was buildt for drag, made about 1800 hp i belive, back in 2011, just look up V.S motor bmw v10 m5 (something in those lines) . Then you have gatebil taxi on rudskogen, they have been sliding around the track for years. One of the mechanics or drivers of those cars said, change the oil frequently and warm the engine before you play with the throttle, you wont have any big issue. I mean, if they were that bad, they would not have used them since there is so many other options.

Its that way in many cars, but since the E series BMW M were pretty fast, it makes more of a difference. Also the M:s got more percentage error than the normal models...

Yeah typical BMW early days bullshit ... so people test drive one, think oh my god its so damn quick, until they use a gps device or even just google maps open (which shows the real speed in the latest version). And see that this cars 148 km/h is real 130 km/h. Its pretty much only to make the driver think this car has 150 HP more and is super quick, so its lying to the driver purposely. Thats why their propaganda works so great. So people can upload videos of it accelerating on youtube and everyone things oh my god its a rocket ... No crap like this on Benz and Audi. 5 km/h at 300 at max.

One of my favorite BMWs (I prefer the sedan version) The worst coexists with the best: on one side you have a HUGE 5 LITERS V10 of 507 hp derived from the competition And on the other you have a robotic gearbox which is HELL (it's a single-clutch mechanical gearbox managed by a computer) : every gear change can BREAK YOUR NECK

I find that the worst settings are in the lower setup, where the gears change before you would start thinking about it. They are not as fast by today’s standard from start but still the v10 sound makes you feel important on the road.

E-series BMW M speedometer strikes again. 299 km/h (Max in this video) = 332 km/h on speedo. 299 isnt bad, but come on... I guess buyers loved it though. A bit of old school italian flair ;) Also glad to see a car driven to the max of its capacity... yes I mean the Opel of course. :)

Despite its flaws, it’s one of the best engines of all time. I’d say it’s up there for legendary status with the M113K just, not as reliable. If you get an M5/M6 V10 make sure the bearings have been done.

Maximum attack S6 no lift on the shifts. Its a brutally satisfying experience. I tended to only use S5 as plenty fast enough and felt more sympathetic to what isnt exactly a bomb proof tranny!

All m5 e60 are like that, and it is programed to at 300km/h show 330km/h, it can be adjusted to the real speed.

Geiles Auto brauchen wir nicht reden. Nur ist der Motor leider nicht der zuverlässigste. Selbst wenn du ihn warm fährst und Regelmäßig auf alle Schmiermittel achtest, lassen sich Lagerschäden nicht vermeiden. Und dann die Vanos Probleme noch dazu, die du aufjedenfall komplett tauschen musst. Das i Tüpfelchen ist dann noch der Verbrauch, der selbst bei normaler Fahrweise bei ungefähr 18-20L liegt. Wenn du den dann richtig trittst, kommt man auf seine 30L dann.
