i see a few 8 series here and there on the roads, i think they lack presence and only car people know what it is. it basically blends in traffic as the nice looking bmw and not stand out in the crowd.

Very nice and interesting review! I totally agree that there should not be big compromise for comfort because of sportiness. I think most of the m-performance cars with adaptive suspension offer best of both worlds. Thomas would it be possible to have review about M340d when it is available?

My family owns a 2020 X5 and although the wireless charging should work well with the wireless Apple car play, it actually overheats the phone because BMW didn’t put any sort of ventilation under or on the side of the charger. It’s a pretty irritating design flaw that was overlooked. One thing I will say is maybe the fan for the cooled cupholders is powerful enough to reach the charger. I will definitely have to test that.

"This car is in Sports Mode all the time!" Great Active driving part, and autobahn view. Thomas, I hear the autobahn is in danger of losing its legendary derestricted status. Apparently the ADAC (Germany's biggest auto club) 'softened its stance' on autobahn speed limits, partially due to climate fears. The Green Party put forward a motion in the German parliament calling for autobahn speed limits. It was defeated but now the ADAC has come out saying it is 'no longer fundamentally against' the idea of speed limits and has called for a review. Irrespective of what happens after the present situation, do you think the unlimited autobahn is finished? If so, will BMW (et al) continue to build road cars that do 200 km/h, or 305 km/h! Since you had the opportunity to drive both the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe and BMW XM, which one would you get. I am planning to add a new BMW to my collection and I am lost between XM Label or M8 Comp Gran Coupe. I know the M8 is going to discontinue soon and the M8 has the old and outdated iDrive 7. What are your thoughts? Should I go for the XM Label or M8 Comp Gran Coupe? Thank you!

If anyone is wondering if you can use this car as a daily driver, yes, you can. It is not as comfortable as a 7 series, but this is not that type of car. You can drive it around town without any problems, the suspension is stiff but not in an annoying way, in 2 weeks you are completely accommodated with it, you will even feel the need to put the suspension in the sport settings, because you feel it to "light" on higher speeds. M8 GC competition or M8 Coupe competition it is just a matter of taste. I prefer M8 GC competition. The car is a monster when referring to its power, it keeps pulling no matter what. It is an excellent car. You also need a little bit of time to get used with the brakes, being a innovation in this field. If you want to buy this type of car, don't hesitate, you won't have any regrets. P.S. you need to keep in mind that this engine needs to be revved up from time to time, in order to keep its perfect working parameters.

I have it and is a bit stiff but normal suspension setting is actually comfy and wonderful, not bumpy.. it is a sport car should be stiffer :) But the difference between m sport mode and normal mode is actually huge and beautiful normal mode is so comfy and on the amazing German highways not even the stiff mode feels stiff lol

As long as the E-LSD is available, RWD is fine on a dry road. Young people under 50 just do not have the experience of driving high HP motor with RWD with an open differential and no ABS like the old days.

I prefer cars like the Subaru WRX STI which are more RAW and you actually feel the speed and can have fun with them even when driving it in the city obeying the speed limits. Cars like this BMW hide the speed too much which makes them boring and dangerous unless you live in Germany and use the autobahn. Just expressing my thoughts from Canada, Ontario where the fastest legal speed limit is 100km/h....^__^

No rear wheel steering because of the M-philosophy. That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. It's already 4WD. If it were for the M-philosophy they should've made it only rear wheel drive like the M2, M3 and M4. I would've liked it a lot with the real wheel steering as it helps with the agility of the car. But I guess agility isn't an M-philosophy for BMW? Stupid. Otherwise, nice video and review.
