BMW M850i vs M340i. Was trading out the 3 series for the 8 series the right move?

Much respect brother. Thinking of doing something similar. Gonna go from 2023 540i to M850i at some point in next year. 540i is such a solid car but I didn't know how much I wanted a twin-turbo V8 until I got into one. Now that the new BMWs are all going touchscreen with massive kidney grills, I want something a little more... traditional before it goes away.

It’s worth it. The M850i is a great car, you gotta go with the V8, although the inline 6 is smooth. But nothing like the V8

Amazing car!!! I would suggest a catted downpipe or catless downpipe, much cheaper than an exhaust, easily available since bmw shares this motor with other models. Catless downpipe would be louder but the shop would need to code out the check engine light, also if you are into sound, cold air intakes, would give you extra turbo noise. Just those 2 mods, really open up the v8 engine in the m850. Also if you want more power, a stage 1 or stage 2 tune after those mods would push this car from 520 to 600-700hp, depending on the tune, and that's pretty much all you need to liven this car up. There are many youtube videos on the m550i with these mods, which has the same motor as the m850i. Both m340i and m850i, probably bmw's best cars since they aren't as hardcore as an m car for daily driving but still have the fun and comfort as an everyday car.

Yeah, I prefer to leave the cats alone because I prefer not having to tamper with the ECU

The typical buyer of an M850i does not really care about exhausts.

Maybe many don’t, but there are some who do. Definitely a much smaller market for aftermarket exhausts than 3 series or “real” M car buyers
