I took my knocking BMW N55 engine apart to see what was making all of that noise and what I found was way worse than I ever expected or seen. There were so many broken pieces in in this engine that I bet my BMW 335 wanted to cry after being in the same garage! This teardown has been fun so far as I've never expected what I found and that makes it exciting to work on. It may not be a savable engine at the end, but I sure will take it apart and find all of the issues it has caused itself. So far I have taken the front axle differential and the support bearing off, removed all the oil pan bolts and then removed the oil pan itself. To investigate further, I removed the oil pick up line and the oil pump as well. We were finally able to see parts of cylinder one and the most likely rod knock and destruction it left behind. Part 2 coming soon to investigate this engine failure further!
