BMW R 1250 RS - Engine Guard Install

Thank you. I have just bought the MachineArtMoto cylinder head covers. I'd forgotten about the screwdriver under the seat - I was just about to go and buy a Torx25 driver - you have saved me that!

Thank you for your videos! I bought my brand new RS last Tuesday, and accidentally dropped it on my sloped driveway. I bought the cheapo Amazon engine guard and literally snapped the first bolt inside the head 😳. Lets just say I got to see the inside of the cylinder head today... Anyways, I had some crash bars in my cart and randomly found your video with the cool x heads! I just got them ordered in a bundle with the machineartmoto mudsling, and look forward to protecting my new ride.

Congratulations on the new RS. What color did you get? I dropped mine on the first day as well. I was attempting a U-turn on a dead-end road, a downshifted the first to do the U-turn, but I actually went into neutral so when I gave it some throttle to pull out of the U-turn, there was no power and the bike went down. Sucks but it happens to everyone. I really like the MachineArt engine guards, they look like they came with the bike. Have a great week. Thanks for checking out the video.

Good video - thanks for posting. I agree I'm not sure about exposing electronics to rain or even spray when washing the bike. I am thinking of getting an RS so am planning the mods already :). I do like the look and design of these MachineArtMoto covers

Thank you for watching my video and commenting, appreciate it. Agreed, the look is not bad at all. I didn’t want to add something that would upset the look of the bike for example crash bars. However with that said, if I end up dropping the bike again while practicing slow speed maneuvering, these new guards will protect the aluminum heads, but will also get scratched up. Actually a set of crash bars that I could take on and off for practice might not be a bad idea. If they get scratched up I wouldn’t care. The RS isn’t easy to find, so good luck with your search. And in advance welcome to the RS club…..if there exists such a club LOL.

Nice! I like the way these cylinder head guards look. I have some carbon fiber covers from R&G racing, but they do not look as protective as these. Also, the R&G covers use adhesive to stay on. I have not had any problems at all with them staying on, but I like the idea of bolts rather than adhesive.

Adhesive seems sketchy. Also if you want to take them off one day. There’ll probably be a bunch of melted on adhesive you’ll need to muscle off with goo gone.

I bought H&B (hepco-becker) crash bars for my R nineT. I was also thinking about the protective caps directly but they were too conspicuous. Your ones look phenomenal and do not destroy the view of the motorcycle's lines. I also bought mine after resting the cylinder on the ground at low speed: D

Thanks for Checking out the video. I just wish I knew about these cards before I dropped mine the first time. That way I would have a scuff mark and the guard and not on the alloy cylinder head cover.

Going to fit these to my bike do you notice if your bike runs any hotter with x heads fitted

No can't say that I do. With both cylinders out in the wind, they stay pretty cool.

Hi Peter. Yes most definitely I would recommend these. In my opinion, they are the best looking ones out there and they don’t disrupt the bike’s style.

Hey Texas2Tires, question for you, do you know if you can put the 1250R handlebars on the 1250RS?

As far as I know should be able to as they are essentially the same bike. However because the RS has clip-ons, you would need the appropriate handlebar neck brackets to hold the tubular bars on. Brake and clutch lines should be checked to ensure they are long enough to reach the higher and wider tubular bars.

@@p-dub7422 ah nice! Yes I see now that the 2023 RS now has the tubular bar option, love it! I’ll update them soon, just waiting to see what the new lineup will be as I’m not sure if I made the right decision trading out my GS.. Does your RS now handle more like the R if you had tried the R? @Elaine-hq5rq I never tried the R but thought about it. I wanted more protection from the wind etc. But when I test rode the bike I was surprised at how well it handled. I did not realize the bars were tubular until I was finished. I wanted the standard bars so I thought about it for a while and researched the benefits of it etc. And realized that my second bike had the similar bars on it and it was comfortable and handled well. You have a RS right? What year and color?

HI great video! I just purchased a 2023 RS and your videos helped me make the decision. I plan to pick it up tomorrow. I may have missed it but I am not sure which brand this engine guard is. I do not think it's BMW. Is there a reason you did not get a BMW one? Also, BMW have a silver looking one I think. Did you want to go all black with the bike and not break up the color? I am trying to decide if I should go BMW or Wunderlick or something like that or silver. Thanks

That's exactly why I started this channel to share information and help other riders. I truly hope you enjoy your RS as much as I enjoy mine. What color did you get? Engine Guards: I bought the MachineArtMoto X-Head guards because they looked stock, went great with the lines of the bike and engine. They also not only protect the side of the cylinder heads, but also the underside. Also the price wasn't too bad. They are about $230. @@p-dub7422 ooh very nice choice. Not actually sure about that. I just know a friend got some guards and he got into an accident. The underside of his cylinder head was scratched up because his guards only protected the sides. Not sure what brand they were.

@Texas2Tires I will check out the BMW guards and see if there is underside protection. Thanks for pointing that out. Just one more question. I am sure you are aware of the Moto Guzzi V 100 Mandello the Sport Tourer. I am watching people say they would take that over the RS due to styling and the bike has a soul. The point is what are your thoughts as an RS owner about the bike. There are people who have strong feelings about the RS.

@@p-dub7422 the RS has more HP and torque. It also looks much cooler in my opinion. The V100 seating position more closely compares to the BMW s1000XR. The BMW TFT is amazing not sure the Guzzi has something in the same league. Also I’m not to familiar on the tech that comes with the V 100. Just based on the looks I would pick the RS everyday
