After a lifetime of sport bikes, I traded my S1000RR for an R1250RS as a 68th birthday present. Overall, I agree with the positive comments in this review. This is by far the heaviest bike I’ve owned, but it feels lighter than it is and it is truly lighter than just about all other current gen sport touring bikes. It’s supremely easy to ride, quick enough, very stable on braking, and the electronic dampers are well modulated for rough roads and for fast sweepers. Ergonomics aren’t perfect for me, but I’m sure is was designed for bigger people (I’m 5’7”, 145 pounds). I wish the bar angle was adjustable, as they are fixed a bit too wide for me. Also, the foot pegs sit just where my legs go when straddling the bike, which is a bit awkward. Lastly, the engine braking is excessive though I have learned to cope with it. A small collection of nits for an outstanding bike that sits at the top of my collection alongside my dear departed Honda RS125 race bike (Godzilla).

Hi Hardy, consider getting an upholsterer to adjust your seat. There are 4 different BMW seats with different heights. I have the standard seat which is a bit high for me (5'8"). My R1200RS was the perfect seat height (should have just swapped them over...). I've picked up a second hand seat (also standard height) and that's currently getting modified to be a little narrower on the front and a little scooped in the seat. Bar risers help too.

I'm not a fan of fairings, but this half-one looks okay. I remember the original R1100RS, a groundbreaking bike. I had an R1100GS. Adjustable screen? Transitional bike?

Good video ---I didnt know it had been lengthened over my r1250r.

The axle is moved forward like 1/2" or so to change the trail. If you look at the video (42 second mark) you can see how the axle is slightly forward of the natural end of the fork. Your r1250r has the axle at the end of the fork.

I hate that some motorcycles look like one headlight is burnt out with the low-beams on. Both headlights should work... Especially on a motorcycle, which is hard for people to see in the first place. As much as I love this bike, this would be a deal breaker for me.

The only problem is that being a bmw it is expensive. There really aren't too many affordable sport touring style bikes that aren't trying to be adventure bikes

compare pricing to what you want. long term. rs wasn't a bad option. legs cramp though

I think the RT is a better bet all around.

Umm after switching to this RS after 5 years on a '15 RT I'd have to differ. Each of these bikes has its strengths and weaknesses. I got tired of the RT's weight and bulk. The RT is pleasant and slightly fun to ride. The RS is way more fun and still pleasant enough to ride.

Like Dave, I too am tired of the weight and bulk but I currently ride the RTs cousin K1600. These two bigger bikes are better tourers tho.

So, is this a 2018 or 2019 model?

2022

@@ArnoldClarke Thanks. I haven’t owned a BMW since my 2009 RT and I’m quite interested in the RS so, if you have the time, three more questions: 1) Is there a significant difference between the ‘19 and the 2020 model? 2) In your opinion what “options” would you bundle with the bike? 3) There’s a 2016 RS for sale near me with very little use, price aside should I be aware of significant model changes between the ‘16 and the ‘19 you reviewed?
@ArnoldClarke4 жыл бұрын
Your welcome Walter. 1) qs smoother. Power and Torque improved. LED headlights, now see in the dark (:, tft screen another much improved part of the bike. 2) Every option you can afford. I didn’t get the SOS as I don’t like looking at the button. Also if you get the black model it’s bottom of the line equipment wise. I have an Austin Yellow SE mid range spec and spent 2k opting it up to Exclusive. 3) See above, My first was a 2015 model, it’s the best bike I’ve owned, they’ve only improved on it.

@@UncleWally3 Biggest difference between the 2019 and 2020 R1250RS is the TFT screen. The instrument cluster on the older RS was always a weak point (analogue speedo and LED tach? seriously, BMW?) and hard to read LED display, but the new TFT is absolutely beautiful with a deep contrast that makes everything very visible. If you were to buy a new R1250RS in the US or Canada there's really only one option, which is the Select Package, and includes most of what's optional elsewhere in the world.

Nice and well done video. I rode this bike. Have to say that this is a very good bike. Like it a loot. I made a video about it. You can check it.

Nice video but why buy a 1250cc and only show it being ridden like a scooter.
@MotorcycleExperience4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I can assure you that our riders always follow the speed limit and always at or near the maximum speed limit. We choose roads that are around 70km/h so viewers can see the bike better as it rides by.
@krispy1k4 жыл бұрын
@@MotorcycleExperience Sorry, wasn't suggesting speeding. Just a little more spirited acceleration up to speed is what I was refering to.

killing off the S and the HP2 models eliminated my motivation for any further Boxers.
@NYCZ314 жыл бұрын
You should try the 1250RS if you liked the S. It's quite close to the old R1100S in terms of overall concept, but the new boxer has a monster amount of torque, with a max at lower RPM, compared to even the R1200S.
