2019 BMW R 1250 RS Review - Jeff Ware

After 15 years on a Honda ST1300, I've gone to the older R1200RS. It certainly does not have the rider comfort and touring capabilities of the Honda, BUT, at 94 kg lighter, I am happy with the RS. I do have handle bar risers and a windscreen extension but the seat to peg ratio is now the only other thing I would like to address. I also shifted the Sat Nav cradle to above the instrument cluster. What a stupid place to put it BMW. All in all, a great bike.

Co e on Jeff,I ride a gsx1400, and the R1250Rs felt small. I also rode the R1250R But I do love it a Nd your review was one of the main reasons I took it for a ride.. Remember ber 8 ride two up a lot of the time, itching the R1250RS is the one for us.Cheers Greg

Great review. Interesting to listen to your experiences with suspension setup, tyres and engine. To me it sounded like every typical big Beemer boxer. I find the best ride performance is gained by roll-on/roll-off throttle use and little braking - trust the front and just let it flow... The sports touring tyres (Metz) that you had on that bike I've found to be pretty good but other brands (eg. Michelin RP5) bring out better feel in the front if you can't get the flow going. Interesting comments about heat. I've never found the boxers to be that hot really. Maybe because I only ride in leathers, but typically I find them cooler than almost every bike I've ridden or owned - I certainly don't get the crotch sweats from the heat coming up in front of/around seat on boxers or on the knees. I don't know what height you are, but for me the screen in the down position worked best. I also found having a communicator or camera attached to the helmet caused most of the helmet noise and buffeting...

Ownin r1200rs, at the summer, I have a lot of heat issues around my boots/feet. In the winter bmw gave me a '' free'' option, feet warmers...

Good review, There isn't more power in Dynamic mode, its just the throttle response..

None of the settings affect the power output, the modes determine suspension settings, throttle response and traction intervention.

Yeah sorry about that - I could have worded that better, but on the side of the road.... All is correct in my written review. Also, we knew nothing technical about the bike at the ride - so at that point it was hard to determine between soft throttle or dropped power. Cheers, Jeff.

hi bud, you say the quickshifter is beautiful, so I am presuming it is a 100 times better than the 1250gs. I rode the GS and the quickshifter was a disaster in the first 3 gears, both up and down. I ride a k16 and my quickshifter is so smooth, you think it is an auto box. So my comparison is with the k16. One of the reason I could not live with GS. cheers from south Africa

I find the upshifts clunky up the 3rd or fourth EXCEPT if you are opening up the throttle and accelerating hard. Downshifts very smooth - at least in my view! Really nice bike

why the hard music? sort of interrupts the review. commercial like. how about real bike sounds. actual live footage. that is sort of the reason to watch the review as opposed to listening to your play list preference.

Hi Sivan, they are comparable, the SS has the sportier edge for sure and feels a lot lighter, the BMW RS is mote suited to touring although both are sports touring. For s long trip, I'd choose the BMW. For shorter trips and more sports riding, the Ducati. The BMW has superior extras and electronics. The Ducati costs less... It's an interesting one, I'd ride both if I was you. Jeff.

it is very hard to drive this engine unless you are investing in handlebars raises. fatigue and pain in the arms and joints are felt after an hour's drive and this becomes unbearable. it gets so intense that you just have to stop driving because you stop feeling the steering wheel and your hands become wooden and stiff. it's an incredible ergonomic flaw in the design and construction of this engine.
