I always preferred the old style valve covers except probably on the R100RS where I think the new style complemented the fairing.

Hi WLM agree 100 Percent on Hagon Nitro custom shocks. I'm in Australia and a few months ago ordered and installed these on my 2011 Bonneville SE, they are great value for money with lots of adjustment preload and dampening. I love your vids especially this BMW rebuild series.

I'm rebuilding a early R1100RS, using the rims, calipers and front fork of a R1150RS and a part of a R1150 Rockster. i leave the engine mechanically alone due to low "millage", but might change the valve stem rubbers but do need to restore the artic silver pain on the engine, carter and front cover, the fork, swing arm, final drive en rims will be blasted and blacked, a profesionel BMW restorer in Germany said use paint and not powder coat. Now i like the R100, lol.
@WildlifeMoto
@WildlifeMoto Жыл бұрын
I guess paint it more “correct” for these old bikes, but if you find a good powder coater you can achieve amazing results. The guys doing my bike have a lot of experience working with classic motorcycles. For the engine parts (and any part with fine tolerances), Cerakote is also worth looking into.
@AnalogDude_
@AnalogDude_ Жыл бұрын
@@WildlifeMoto The problem is it's a very hard coat and chips away when impacted, while with paint you can sand down and reground and repaint. more than one person told me and have a combined work experience of around 85 years in the automotive industry. But it was mini initial thought as well, but telling my plans to these people the advice against it. I can't really disassemble my engine to paint it, due to it's millage, preserve It's original soul, i probably have to use aircraft paint stripper and a wire brush. Would you try to convert your bike with the ECU and throttle bodies from a R1100 to injection?

@@WildlifeMoto if i may, how did your restore the hand controls, the appearance and repaint, how did you remove the old paint of them? mine needs that aswel.
@WildlifeMoto
@WildlifeMoto Жыл бұрын
@@AnalogDude_ There is a dedicated video for these controls on the channel. They were vapour blasted and cerakoted black. The MC and reservoir were replaced as was all the bolts, washers and bushings.

@@WildlifeMoto Thank you, I saw you mentioned the instrument cluster, not yet saw that video, just recently found you : ) apart from outer the reservoir outside cover, i have the internals new from BMW. Today i got the parts for the rear brake master cyl. But now i say your controls, lol and they looked very good. Hopefully, i can find someone in my are that does that.

Beautiful resto, with the aim to ride. Expensive but you will have a superb bike that can do it all today. How much would a similarly priced new bike cost…..plus it’s yours and you will know every part. As for tyres, get the best you can afford as a bike has minimal contact with the earth and unless it’s just for sunny Sunday afternoons….well staying on the bike seems quite agreeable 😀

Thank you. It was an expensive project but as you say, the experience and end product is worth it. Buying a new bike gives you a single hit of happiness, but restoring an old bike gives you the ongoing pleasure of achievement and you get to meet some really great people along the way.

Thanks for the video. Did you happen to take footage of the process and any work you did? Looking forward to see what's next. A classic toaster airhead has long been on my list. Someday. For now I already have a large project - A Honda CB77 (Super Hawk) presently in a very distressed state. All the best.

Hi Rob. Not all of the mechanical work has been filmed but I will do some more detailed videos when it comes to reassembly. If you jump over to Brook Reims airhead channel you’ll find some extremely detailed videos on this bike.

Hi great series, how did you finally get the long ending bolt out? Also you have mentioned the engine rebuild, but who did you use as I’m starting a similar project
@WildlifeMoto
@WildlifeMoto Жыл бұрын
Yes that bolt had to be cut and drilled out (nightmare). Sinroja Motorcycles did the engine rebuild.
@hiviz600

@@WildlifeMoto I bet it was a nightmare, I hope not to have the same experience. Did enjoy detail and also that Sinroja picked up on the wear in the plated cylinders.. proves you did some great research. Look forward to more content.

How about doing a review of your Knox gloves... Hagon shocks,, In my opinion you have made a misstake,those shocks are out of keeping with the bike...Overall the bike looks fan(bloody)astic
@WildlifeMoto
@WildlifeMoto Жыл бұрын
You are in luck with the Knox review as I made a video on these gloves a couple of years back (spoiler alert, they are amazing) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZfGYYKspp2Nr6M. Regarding the shocks, I don’t entirely disagree with you regarding the look of these. They are a bit of a diversion away from the slender classic shocks that you usually see on this bike. However, I think they’ll work well. In theory, the bike has a heavy weight industrial look that can carry these chunky springs without looking out of place. We’ll have to see. If they look out of place I can always get a set of Ikons or something similar. Thanks for watching.
