I wish BMW still made a light weight GS with a boxer motor. The new retro R9T's get close.

It's true, "they just don't make them like they used to!"

Just got back from another ride to Central Nevada. This is a great area to ride and this time we rode Ophir Pass from East to West and that was much more difficult.
@2on2off14 жыл бұрын
I also rode it east to west on a DRZ400S and I dumped the bike on the uphill rocky section. Needed some help making it all the way up. Momentum and a high level of skill is needed to ride it east to west.

320, 600, and then 1000 grit wet and dry sand paper used with penetrating oil and then polish with autosol metal polish no problem look like chrome aferwards ;)

It's much cleaner than my R100! I need to remove the engine and repaint the frame as it has surface rust spots!

I remember talking to the BMW shop owner in Reno and asked him what do you do if you are by yourself out in the middle of the Nevada back country and you breakdown. He said just make sure you carry a pistol, but you only need one bullet.

I prefer to carry an air pump, tire plugs, slime, a SPOT, GPS, Map, extra water and tools. But bad stuff can happen even to those very well prepared.

Fantastic how did your mate clean the rims on the gs ?
@2on2off12 жыл бұрын
He used chrome cleaner with some brushes and a buffing cloth. Mostly, it was just a lot of time rubbing, cleaning and persistence.

Would that be considered a swarm of bumblebees? Sorry, as a proud owner of a 1991 r100 gs bumblebee that I have had since '96 with the better part of 250,000 miles on us, I just couldn't help myself.
@2on2off13 жыл бұрын
Yes. The Bumble Bees were swarming. It was one of my most enjoyable rides and Nevada has some great off road destinations without killing yourself in silt or rock gardens. Nevada does a great job of maintaining their dirt roads for the most part. Not that there are not difficult sections to be found.

How did you clean the wheels? I've got the same problem with my R100R Mystic.
@2on2off14 жыл бұрын
I can't take credit for this as my friend Richard cleaned them up. I think he used rust remover, steel wool, fine sand paper and chrome polish.

thinking of buying a bumblebee, will it make me smile
@2on2off14 жыл бұрын
It made me smile while off road especially but the suspension for fast on road pavement is limited. Just ride it like the 31 year old bike it is.

how did you clean those wheels?
@2on2off18 жыл бұрын
It was a two person effort. Lots of hard work. Used steel wool, chrome cleaner and spent hours and hours on them. So did my friend Richard.
