To me the bike is very smooth compared to the Buell I used to have, which I missed dearly. You guys should take a Buell out. But it is also a bike that takes time to grow on you. I thought that bike was very beautiful My XB9SX. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And if I had to choose the most beautiful bike it would be really tough. But my /5 is up there.

I had an Urban GS. The engine, as you say was an absolute beauty. The suspension was dismal and ruined otherwise keeper of a bike. That and a cracked engine casing, leaking crank seals and a main dealer attention to detail and mechanical aptitude in the re assemblage of the bike that bordered on the farcical. In the end, I had a word with myself and returned to the GS world. I would like another bash on a 9T though.

I tried a 2022 GS 1250 Trophy and a GSA 1250 Triple Black. While I found them competent machines they didn't real do anything for me. Likewise the XR didn't really move me. My dealer got in a 2022 R1250RS and that did it. The RS ticked all the boxes and came with all the bells and whistles with the 719 option and the luggage. No problem with power on this bike although the quick shifter/blipper isn't really a first to second gear thing, bit clunky . After 2nd though no problems. In Oz most BMWs come with all the packs so when you get the bike its the same as the one you tested.

Nice "quick and dirty" (and wet) review Mike. I rode an Urban T for an afternoon and agree with pretty much every comment. I didn't find the riding position too cramped but then I am shorter than you and much fitter and younger of course. Apart from the lack of weather protection, the only thing that put me off it was the seat, not really comfy enough for longer rides in my opinion. Looks wise I LOVED the Racer but the riding position!!

At 6’3” and 100kgs I’ve always hated rugby, but enjoyed being able to look over the crowd. Buying bikes has been an interesting exercise in life since that first FS1-E back in 1975. It was the sports bikes that did for me, in fairness I’ve never owned one as the need for a penis enhancer was not what I needed and speed was never high on my list. Think go karting and at 100kg whatever skill you have you will be beaten by the lighter and thus smaller guy. Just a final amusing tale from the taller side of the tracks. As a regular tyre kicker at the NEC Bike Show a friend and I (he was a tall bit too) would regularly stroll onto the Honda stand and straddle the incredibly cramped (but fast and agile) Honda Fireblade. Now each one of us looked a touch too large for the bike (I’m being nice here), but then we would point out the pillion seat and the rear foot pegs in a rather loud manner. Then the other would clamber onto the back seat behind the rider. Now that was a look verging on the pornographic…… But in fairness the pillion had an unparalleled view of the road ahead and it would have been a great touring perch if ever you could have put more than a handkerchief of luggage on it. I’ll wrap it up by saying my 1250GS is a blissfully comfortable and capable weapon, I can touch the floor flat footed and it gives me Range Rover (I actually don’t like them…) like vision over the masses. And I still don’t like rugby…

@@PhilbyFavourites I went for the R1200R - so I can flat-foot it - but with the same engine we both get that lovely low end torque. The 1200GS I tried was not so intimidating once off the main stand, and comfortable too. I've never had a sport bike either, and I do remember the Fizzys , but I bought a Yamaha 100 (1974) for the (little) extra power and the lack of pedals! 😀

Not shure, I got it right: Did you say the engine has the shiftcam technology? I think not. It is the "old" 1200 air/oil cooled engine, shiftcam was introduced with the 1250 (water cooled). Cheers

@@LemonDrizzleGang Not a good looking bike at all. BMW designed some good looking cars in the 70's but their bikes were fuddy duddy until the R90S and the beautiful R100 RS. Good video but shame about the rain 😁 The R9T certainly is a great looking machine and I was sorely tempted back in 2015 but then I rode the new R1200R (water/air cooled) with usd forks. 8 years on and I can't find anything to replace it ........ I love it. Comfort wise, it's an all day bike and I regularly see 68mpg on long rides up through Wales but not as pretty as the R9T. You mentioned 'shift cam', have they actually put that on the R9T now? I thought it was only on the R1250s? Anyway, I can certainly recommend the R1200R (2015 onwards) it's a majestic beast that'll test your arm ligaments when you open it up. I did ride the R1200RS which is essentially the same bike but they've modified the front fork bottom wheel brackets to make the bike slower steering but more stable at higher speeds ....... I preferred the 'R' handling. Enjoying your videos, cheers, Phil

@@LemonDrizzleGangmorning, just watched the whole video while doing the washing up lol. So the R1200R… I had it for two years and I only sold it when I dropped it into my local BMW Shop (Alton, in Hampshire) for a service three years ago and the very canny salesman gave me a 1250GS as a courtesy bike… I I sold the 1200 and bought a an 18 month old 1250 a week later! I’m 6’3” and with long legs. And sat in the R I could reach down with my hand and touch my heel. It was a little cramped. But it was a stunning bike. I mean perfectly capable in every way. So I joked with the salesman that I spent an extra £9K for 11 more hp. But it was worth it in my eyes and wallet. Get the red framed white tanked R1200R and you won’t regret it. They aren’t a GS and thus they are incredibly good value. Anyhting to look out for? Not that I can think of, check the electronics and service history and you’re away 👍🏻👍🏻🤓 Great set of videos btw 🤓🤓🤓👍🏻

I had a R NineT Scrambler with Ohlins front and rear and the optional rev counter. Standard equipped with Akrapovic exhausts. I did not like the bike at all. Hated the sound. Funnily enough I have the same air-head engine with 110 hp in my GS, which I do like very much; I even like the sound (I like my Moto Guzzi V85TT Centenario even better though).. I greatly prefer the Moto Guzzi V7 850 over the R NineT, although it is actually in a 'lower' class. That doesn't mean I don't like BMW's, I have a 1956 R50 and a 1970 R60/5 which I like very much for pottering about, but the R NineT just did not do it for me (just as I don't like the liquid-cooled GS's)

@roverchap Жыл бұрын
I can't say that this is a good-looking bike. I must be off the trend as I find very few modern bikes attractive, other than retros. With this design there 's too much going on in terms of shapes and patterns, little for the eye to settle on, no flowing lines to follow. It's a mess of haphazard shapes and panel blocks. Spoked wheels look out of place on such a machine. If you want an interesting attractive BMW take a look back at the K100RS from 1983/4. This was a radical and controversial design, a bold move away from the boxer twin and into the futuristic Duran Duran techno-world of the 1980s. Big blocks of alloy flow from the lie-flat engine to rear differential, big blocks of same colour panelling, minimal badging, hex-web wheels.

I have an R9T in my garage for repair and when it is finished I'd like to ride it. The owner went down and ripped out the camshafts and broke the cylinders on it. I already put a new engine in it, if you drop a bike like this without heavy duty engine guards.....you may as well tell the tow truck driver to bring it to the junk yard. My F800ST is a POS, my K75 is another piece of junk. Theses bikes are in excellent condition with low miles. I just don't like the way they ride, and overall behavior.
