I had a 1200GS LC that did this for 102.000 kilometers, and still did it after I sold it. My new R1250GS also does this, and probably will in 100.000 kilometers ;)

I have a R1250GSA 2020... Solved the problem asking the Dealer to put in BMW Advantec 15W 50 at service... They didn't think it was a strange request... Engine runs fine and quiet now... No increased fuel consumption...
@renatoshehu79022 жыл бұрын
They solved that issue by replacing the tensioner, very easy job you just remove a bolt and replace it with a longer one, there’s a youtube video about it.

I have a 2020 I picked up in June. Noticed the tapping at around 2600 miles. dealer changed 2 cam gears on the left side, and it seems to be ok for now. I googled 1250 engine noise and didn't get much results. should have tried KZbin. Now i see it's a common problem that BMW needs to address.

My bike does the same noise and the BMW told my dealer that this noise is normal, do you think that’s normal or were they trying to avoid a costly repair?
@dimitargeorgiev65124 жыл бұрын
I think in the coming months they will change the structure of the left cylinder....... There are many claims
@renatoshehu79024 жыл бұрын
Dimitar Georgiev i hope they will change the left structure of those already sold gsa’s instead of telling us that this is normal
@WDXash4 жыл бұрын
To me, it sounds unhealthy. Engines do makes sounds which are normal, but when it’s an excessive mechanical clatter, it ain’t going to heal up and go away. It will only get worse. There’s no reason why both cylinder heads shouldn’t sound similar. If the right one sounds ok, why doesn’t the left? It doesn’t sound like a noise anyone would be proud of, so I absolutely believe BMW are trying to fob you off.

Which conditions does it occur ? Hot (performance Ride)/Warm(normal daily)/(Cold Start) engine /all
@gustavogarcias83103 жыл бұрын
My GSA 1250 - 2020 has Exactly the same problem The tickling noise starts when the engine is warming up or even earlier. It gets louder and louder as hot as the engine gets. So technically is a normal ride, for example in my case, I never ride over 110km or 65 on that average and the sound gets louder and louder.

Hi Paul, any further update on this please? I just took my 1250GS to the dealer with the same ticking from LHS. They avise they are replacing the left cylinder head and have taken "measurements" to send back to BMW. Really annoying, first BMW ever and its been in the dealers longer than I have riden the damn thing.

Hi Paul, is this the new engine?
@TheStammeringBiker4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's just had the valve clearances checked and new shims fitted as the tolerances were right at their upper limits but there is still a noise unfortunately.
@simonzhang1004 жыл бұрын
Paul Jones so they’ve replaced the engine and it still sounds like that?! Mine sounds like that and they’re in the process of replacing the left head. Apparently they’ve narrowed it down to a clearance of a valve stem which is at the upper end of tolerance, but that’s not right for a bike that’s done 6000km.
@TheStammeringBiker4 жыл бұрын
Simon Zhang yeah the new engine sounds like that. They’ve just had to put new shims in as the valve clearances were almost out of tolerance but the noise even though it’s slightly less is still there. A head engineer for BMW UK is coming out to my local dealer on March 11th to examine the bike for me.
