BMW Service - Front Brake - Rotor / Disc problem

This problem for K1 through the R1100 series with 3 spoke cast wheels. The later 5 spoke wheels do not have this problem but suffer from EVO brake / ABS issues. Choose your poison... THANK YOU Chris for ALL the videos you made. I recently had rough idle and backfire. Took it to BMW they charged me $425 to sync and plug. Problem still there. WATCHED Chris Harris video showing bad coil stick. Problem solved. Thank you Chris

I failed state inspection because of this (less movement than any of those shown in the video. European inspectors are strict, I tell you). Replaced the bobbins with BMW originals, and 3 years later it failed again. I'll try and get those EBC discs now...

I bought a used 2013 BMW F750 GS with 23,000 miles. What I learned is when buying a BMW Moto-BAD (rad) used, one must "query each component" to determine if there were cheaply manufactured parts and components installed from the factory. The dealer and manufacturer won't own-up to any issues or tell you why they had recalls on components. I'll stick to Japanese bikes. 1st and last BMW for me!

4:20 BMW = bring more wallet! As a K-bike owner, I find parts for them to be insanely expensive compared to any other motor vehicle I own (BMW car included).

As usual, I'm a day late and a dollar (or many) short. I find this video (sigh) while looking for something else. Go figure. I tried to get OEM discs (long story short), but was told they were on perpetual back order from Brembo. Since I didn't want to ride with below spec discs and worn bobbins (pucks), I decided to try some hardly used discs from a dismantled model - not wrecked, and obviously matching, along with some new pucks and clips. Yes, agreed, it was a PITA! But, I prepared for the challenge (mentally at least) and just dove in. Suffice it to say, so far so good. One is a little bit loose - no where near what it was before, and the other one not so much - similar to the example in the video. A few short rides near the house, then 22 miles round trip for work, and after a couple of weeks, all "seems" ok, but I guess time will tell. Thx for the videos and knowledge base Chris! You are more appreciated than you will ever know!

R1100R owner: Years ago I switched over to wire spoke rims. I don't have the floaters. QUESTION: My rotors are worn-out well over BMW specs. They work great. Is there any reason to replace worn-out rotors that still work great?

Well, they may break apart under heavy braking.

@@pawewinter8428 It seems unlikely they could break apart. Although they are noticeably worn, the metal is still thick and strong. I never heard of a brake rotor breaking apart. My brake rotors have 150,000 miles on them. I only replace the pads. It seems safe. I sure hope so.

@@JohnDoe-bf1fw also, I have never heard of motorcycle brake rotors breaking apart, but maybe I don't have enough experience. But it is not uncommon in other types of vehicles which weight more f.ex. cars, trucks etc.

@@pawewinter8428 If the rotor was warped or had even a small crack, I would certainly replace it immediately. I don't need a micrometer to know its worn past specs. I can see that its dished out. Its just a metal disk...There is nothing mysterious about a bake rotor. I think BMW puts a spec limit on the rotor so dealers can make money replacing them. Even while worn-out its still a big thick metal disk. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't think it will break apart. It would be a real bad day if it broke while on a busy freeway..... Hopefully Mr. Harris can give us his opinion on this matter.

Была такая проблема несколько лет назад. Купил пруток аллюминия (они сделаны из аллюминия) и выточил на токарном станке. Есть в Румынии человек, который сделает то же самое и отправит вам готовый комплект для восстановления по всему миру за 60$ (если правильно помню). У него сайт свой есть - можно в гугле написать запрос. Но намного проще снять, замерить, найти человека с токарным станком и изготовить самому. Там рабочий диаметр 14 -0,05, насколько я помню.
