So I snapped the barb off the injector connector on the fuel distribution spider, luckily I don't have ABS so I unscrew the battery tray and the throttle junction box sits in a slot under the tray , the slot is part of the tray , the throttle junction box is stuck in there nice and tight. I needed silicone lube and 20 minutes of wrangling to get it out and that's with the tray half out . I amazed now that you got it out so easliy. Thanks for the videos, they're a great help.

I just dropped my R1150R off for a service. He recommended new cables & jct box(I think) anyhow an extra $400. Busted a throttle cable on my '99 GS several miles from home. I used the fast idle to get me there. I even got to 3rd gear on a down slope. Thanks for the videos.

Followed your video to replace the cables on r850r 2007 and to fit the chalk cable on the handlebar all you need to do is slide the handle out a bit and remove the center Philips head screw and pull the chalk handle, then the cable hook is visible.

Hello Gabi, The model here uses a different choke lever than your R850R. The R850R was not a popular model in the U.S. and was only offered for 2 years from 08/95 to 04/97. It used the choke lever that you describe as did the rest of the R1100 models sans the 'S' model which is as depicted in this particular video. Thanks for the pointer Chris I will get some ordered. I have thought that as an RT-P it may have been running idle for most of its use in London, it burns a little oil slightly more than expected, so my thoughts were on a perished valve seal and if that has been there for sometime coating and caking up the inlet/exhaust valves - only removing the heads will i find out for sure and really despite the costs, it cannot harm the machine to find out. P.s. I liked the one of the kids with the go-carts

Hi Chris, after balancing idle Rpm on 1050 and riding about 40 miles on 3500 Rpm when I've parked on neutral the Rpm was on 1500 and the engine was rock and shake from side to side, it's the second time it's happened the Throttle switch was tuned before by the Bmw computer program.Is it posebole that the Throttle switch is out of order ?

when you take out that junction box is easier to push it from the left side. rather then pull it. siting on the motorcycle helps . you push it with left hand and with the right hand you keep down the tubes cheers!!!

hi chris. greatings from croatia (europe). i don't own a bmw (yet :)) but i enjoy watching you work on motorcicles because you explane what you do very well so it is posible to learn a lot. i have 2 questions . first is about the metal fuel line conectors - i have something like that but plastic on my aprilia caponord fuel line but i would like to replace them for metal ones - can you tell me where i could buy them? which company or something. and the second question is about owning a bmw. in your videos you state alot of mystakes and malfunctions on bmw motorcicles - if someone would ask you if they should buy a bmw (the new gs1200 is the bike i would like to own after aprilia) or buy some of the other big enduro bikes - what would you sugest? thank you for your answer in advance and have a hapy new year.

Hi Sasa, Thank you. The metal fuel disconnects are available from Beemer Boneyard: Please tell them I sent you. As for the new BMW's... I have limited experience and even less interest in post 2004 models so I am unable to offer an opinion of the new ones. Sorry. For reliability it is pretty tough to beat a 16 valve K1, K100RS, K1100RS or K1100LT. Not good off-road though. Happy New Year, Chris

Chris - I follow you videos with great interest. Do you plan on doing a video of causes or method of finding rough idling? I have this very fault since i owned the bike, i both love and hate my first BMW...I would gladly drop it off to you but im about 4000 moles from you in the UK.

I do not have a video covering this problem as I do not service K1200's very often any more. Your problem is likely a worn out throttle body rack due to age & mileage. One of my customers suffered the same $1200 issue with his 100,000 mile '98 K1200RS.

I saw this video a couple weeks ago and then had the opportunity to have to replace my throttle bodies on my 2009 R1200RT because the pulleys broke. Have you ever heard of that? Anyway, funny thing as I removed and later installed the gas tank, I lost one of the frigging metal spacers you talk about in the video. I had to make a new one by trimming a 11/32 deep 1/4" socket. It worked...I laughed at myself because I remember your comment in the video. I guess they didn't change how the gas tank attaches. So, have you ever heard of TB pulleys breaking? THey are plastic for god's sake. A GD $19K bike new and they use plastic for throttle pulleys. The thing is, the pulleys can't be replaced. The whole TB has to be replaced. I found a set on eBay with the cabling/distribution box and FI still attached. $265 shipped. BMW wanted $1120+ tax just for the bare TBs. BMW=Broke My Wallet. Anyway, it's back on the road, but I am not feeling warm and fuzzy about beemers anymore.

Well, I still have the bike. It was a learning experience. Funny thing is that all the forum idiots blamed me. Then when I looked for throttle bodies, half of them on ebay and elsewhere had cracks in the pulleys. The set I bought was off a 20K mile salvage and it came with the fuel injection setup and the distribution box, when was a plus. The only expenditure beyond that was the low profile oetiker clamp pliers.

They worked well though. The pair I bought seemed like quality. A shame I won't use them often. $35. It made the job easier. I don't mind getting tools if they help. I hate cheaply made tools though. On the other hand, it's nice when a vehicle just needs basic tools to work on.

Oilhead oil consumption is usually caused by poorly seated piston rings from a too mild break-in when new. BMW claims that 1 liter every 600 miles is acceptable. I find it outrageous. Perform a leak-down test to verify where the leakage is. Thanks, Chris

My God, you are too complicating! choke assambly no need to remove, also air tubes of carburetor - two cables for each carburetor are very easy removable, if you know how to, so if you are not qualified, dont't repair and blame BMW for your inability. Peace
