At 13:18, it's important to state that the shaft needs to be properly oriented, or it will be off by 180-degrees, when reassembling the butterfly. The small screws and chamfered holes must be on the same side of the shaft as with the butterfly.

Did mine following your guide thanks. I used the old shaft to drive out the old bush with the tap in place. I also found it easier to put the circlip on first then insert the shaft from the other side. My body was worn due to the back and forth slop from the old shaft so I used kneadable epoxy metal putty to build up the damaged area and then filed it down. Gave me a new area to install the o-ring. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the great video. I did both sides on my 04 Rockster👍 Your video was a confidence booster on getting it done and not getting lost in the steps needed. I had to use a 3/8 tap on my setup to pull the bushings.

I installed this Dan Cãtan Throttle Body Rebuild kit myself on my 2000 BMW yesterday The task was quite simple, and only the removal of these original slide bearings, which had been in place for over 20 years, was a bit of a challenge. It was difficult until I realized that an 8mm bolt sawed into a 20mm slot on one end would work very well as a bearing removal tool ;-) Also, I noticed when disassembling my own BMW that the pulley ends didn't have the shims Dan Cãta described that I had to find elsewhere, so the mounting shoulders for that axle would have been perfect for another installation in the future. Otherwise, this operation was easy to do, and the end result now completely satisfies me. Different from the way of making this video, I myself used the old bearings as a "spacer" according to Dan Cãta's advice when installing the new bearings, as well as a long 8mm bolt that extended completely through both holes, so the chances of failure were minimized when the new bearings were hammered into place. The original problem was the TPS which I could not adjust to the set margins under all conditions and now works 100% fine.

WARNING: The left Throttle Housing Assy for the R 1100 GS / R 850 R / R 1100 R currently cost $715.05 and $488.92 for the right side. I haven't done this produce yet, but when I do I plan on being very very careful.

Would a spot of loctite be good on the butterfly screws?
@hmroa3056
@hmroa3056 4 жыл бұрын
Self correction: At 13;18, the position of the shaft is not really important, unless you prefer the nuts of each butterfly retaining mini screw to face downthroat or upthroat of the throttle body. The butterfly is inserted in the gap of the brass shaft, not on one side or the other.
@jonandrews4493
@jonandrews4493 2 жыл бұрын
I put an arrow on my brass butterfly when I removed it, as it had 20 years of sitting in the same position/direction, I was concerned that it could be reversed and or rotated when reassembling and thus not quite sitting the same in the body, not sure if it makes any difference though, but to me it seems logical to insert it in the same direction as when taken apart.😂

Great video. What should I do if my disk wont close flush anymore?
@GuysGarage120
@GuysGarage120 Жыл бұрын
You will need a new disk. I have a jig to make new disks. They are actually oval and not round as they are positioned at an 86° angle in the throttle body. I also make my own shafts when I rebuild these throttle bodies.

On the R1150 you dont need to do the TPS adjustment. Just turn on the ignition and twist the handle to full throttle a few times. The ECU will calibrate to the min. and max. values of the potentiometer.

Hi Seraptin. I have the R1150RT and i will rebuild with this kit 👍🏼 When i’m done i simply just have to turn on ignition and then open/ close throttle a few times. Then the TPS is calibrated?
@GuysGarage120
@GuysGarage120 Жыл бұрын
Adjusting the TPS is critical on these bikes to get the idling correct. Contrary to popular belief, twisting the throttle does absolutely nothing. It is unfortunately one of those myths that just won't die. The correct way to do it, especially after replacing the shaft and butterfly disk, is to back off the butterfly stop screw completely and allow the butterfly to close completely. Set the TPS to give you a voltage of 0.25V, and lock it in place. Now readjust the butterfly stop screw until the voltage reaches 0.36V. Lock it in place. Turn the BBS in all the way, and then out by 1½ turns. On the RHS, turn the BBS in all the way and back out 1½ turns. Now adjust the butterfly stop screw to get the balance correct on the vacuum gauge at idle. Bring revs up to ±2500RPM, and adjust the cable stop on the RHS to balance again.

Hi. I have a 2020 BMW R1250R where the butterfly valves are pinging in the Throttle body assembly (from brand new to current +/_ 6000Km's). BMW say that its normal, but I say it isn't, as the noise is very distracting. Its very noticeable under load from around 2000rpm upwards in all gears. I have a video clip that I could share. Do you have any recommendations?

One of the best videos on KZbin. Thanks!! Q: I have an RT1200 2012, the one with the new engine. I was dum enough to unscrew the air screw on the throttle body, yes, that one that you're NOT supposed to move. Anyhow, do you know any way around buying both throttle bodies new??? cause, that's what BMW dealer proposes, due that they haven't been able to sync it right. Any idea will be welcome, Thanks again
@GuysGarage120
@GuysGarage120 Жыл бұрын
The 1200 throttle bodies are relatively easy to set up. Use a piece of paper about 5mm wide and 150mm long. Remove the throttle body from the bike and turn it so that it is pointing straight up. Open the butterfly and insert the one end of the piece of paper into the gap, then close the butterfly, trapping the piece of paper in place. Add a small weight (A coin works best) to the other end of the piece of paper. Now carefully turn the stop screw clockwise until the paper falls out. Repeat on the other throttle body, and refit to the bike. The idle actuators will do the final balancing automatically while the engine is running.

I have a 20 year old R1100R. Today I removed the the left throttle body to replace the cam chain tensioner. Yes, my throttle body was also black and filthy. It seemed there saw a very little play in the throttle body. I'm not sure if I should get a Cata Dan rebuild kit or not. It doesn't seem that bad.

To secure the butterfly fasteners it would be better and more professional to use threadlock. If one of those nuts or screws finds its way into the cylinder it would do a huge amount of damage to the engine.
