My missus M135i drove me insane trying to find this knock. Tried all sorts then found this repair kit. Had to make my own tool out of some 5mm plate and some bolts. 😂

Hi mate, great video! I have a bmw 330d f30 with 2 problems! When i pull off my drive way turning the steering wheel 75% either way from centre, the car is clunking bad until the steering wheel is centre and driving straight. I also have the knock when i turn the steering wheel slightly left and right for testing! Any chance i can bring her to you?

Got this part replaced by a "reputable" garage and within 1 week the knocking came back. What could that mean? I need a new rack or the guys didn't tighten the cap enough as they should have done?

Mark the cap to body with a cross then Give it 1/4 turn more

Just attempted this and the new piece just would not fit in the rack. Even using heavy leverage and a tap of a hammer. Had to put the old one back in and just use the new spring and cap, its sorted the problem for now but i expect it to come back soon

on my 335d there is a knocking if i move my steering wheel side to side gently when engine off and stationary. Its quite loud. could this be the cause? ive had arms changed and the noise persists.

Hi just wondering I have a bmw f30 when I lock the wheel to the right when turning on a bend there is a knocking sound only sometimes but no other sounds or noises from the rack other then that could this be the problem ?

I don’t have a knocking sound however my steering wheel just blocks and really struggles to move I did put a newer shape steering wheel on it however if I turn the car on and off the steering wheel goes back to normal was wondering if you could help me

Try to move your wheel left to right engine off and you should hear the knocking if you have the same issue

i did mine today, the new bush has got stuck, not fully seated and now i cant get it out, yes it was put in correct, its fully waged in there, going have to book it into a shop to see if they can get out the new stuck bush if not new rake

Is this issue true of mini cooper s (F56)? I can’t find the equivalent part online (nor can I find steering rack end stop bushings. (All of which is to say that I can’t find any parts to fix my steering rack and I’m freaking out cause a new one is $2K). Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Can you not just adjust the cap to increase the preload on the spring? Old skool repairs for an old skool problem!

It's the bushing that is damaged so increase the preload on the spring will just make you steering harder to turn and imprecise imo
