BMW Terminal 15, 30, 30g & 30g_f Explained - Heated Steering Wheel DIY on E90 M3 Ep. 1[ENG SUB]
On a BMW, the electrical power source has been split into different terminals in terms of their functions. The power management system regulates the voltage supply of the terminals;
-Terminal 31: The earth. Connected to the negative lead of the battery and the metal part of the car body.
-Terminal 30: Connected to the positive lead of the battery. It constantly supplies +12V until the battery drains out. e.g. the anti-theft system uses this terminal.
-Terminal 30g (or terminal 30B since F series): Begins to supply power when the car is awakened (e.g. unlocked). It supplies power until the car enters sleep mode (e.g. 30 min after locking the car.)
-Terminal 30g_f (or terminal 30F since F series): Constantly supplies power as 30 but shuts down when there’s fault in the system. e.g. the battery is too low to start the engine.
-Terminal 15 (or terminal 15N since F series): Supplies power when key switched to ignition (driving condition.) e.g. For the modules related to engine control.
The above terminals are distributed in the fusebox, supplying electrical power to various modules. It is helpful to know which terminal a fuse is on to add electrical devices. The most important thing is not to use the wrong terminal and accidentally drain out the battery.
