Nice information Sir. I also have the same issue (mine is e36). BMW trans are need a lot of voltages, if they didn’t get the voltage as much as they needed, the trans fail prog will automatically ON. But on my case, somehow, my aftermarket alarm drain my battery in a night. I takeout the fuse of my aftermarket alarm, nothing happened again. Key is, IMHO. As long as your battery and alternator is normal, most likely trans fail prog will not gonna show.

I have the "trans fail safe mode" on my 2002 BMW X5, 180K miles on it. I had the car sitting around for about 3 months and when I turned it on it gave me the code. I ran the car hoping the code would go away but it didn't. It shifted rough like you described. I am going to check and replace the belt if needed. I'll let you know how it goes. Also, the "ABS" had been lit up for a while, way before the trans fail safe error come on. Some people say the ABS thing affects the transmission code. Let me know what you think.

I think so because my battery died and it was sitting for a week I have 140,000 miles and when the car came back on the ABS light was on and then it went off now that the car was off and cut back on the trans failure mode is back on so I’m hoping to learn something and cyclones video and share anything that I can as well thank you for sharing

Will do starting with battery had it close to 2 years going to get battery and alternator tested then check belt I know it reads I need my breaks alignment too so I’m not sure if that affects the light for trans mode too will see if I can also get it scanned

Hi i have a e53 x5 thats gone for a gearbox oil service after the service the car down shifts and upshifts terrible i drove it in manual mode and when i dropped deown to 4th gear for a overtake it changed to 5th gear by its self then suddenly dropped back to 4th then went into trans fail safe Could this be a battery issues its never done it before

this sounds like good info, but what about the abs module or tcm module? some people say it could be that too. what are your thoughts??????

I replaced with a used ABS module which you will have to reprogram. Worked for a year or so. Still get the trifecta lights occasionally and will go into trans fail safe if lights are on and I push it. I think it may have something to do with the brake fluid. Haven't flushed it yet but it seems to only happen at higher temps. Heard it could also be a solenoid in the transmission. Not to bad to DIY. I do need new pulleys though
