I have this car from December 1, 2018, and pretty much agree with what Thomas says. People at my office asked me last week, how do I like my X3 (30i version) and I said it "calms me down." It's exactly what he said, it's so quiet and smooth in operation. I had the prior 2013 X3 35i with the 300 HP turbo six and liked the surging power but it wasn't a "calm" car like my 2019 X3 30i. I think he says "grown-up" as well which says it perfectly. I like his precision in describing operations and hits the relevant points nicely. Having driven loaner 2018 X3 35i, X1's and X2's, I much prefer the X3 package. There was a numbness and squirrel-y feeling to them especially on my daily super-high curving transition from Hwy. 580 to Hwy. 24. I didn't like it. No such problem with my new X3, it's solid, confident and smooth. Also I like the usable space with the headroom (I didn't even consider the X4 for this reason, plus don't love the styling because it has such a big rear butt), rear seat and storage room. The 2019 X3 30i is a beautifully balanced car, works well, nicely designed, performs well enough power and handling-wise to keep me happy. It feels like it might be lower than my previous X3, I don't have to climb up into it. Though dimension-ally it's bigger, it's funny because it actually feels smaller than my old car, when you're driving or parking. Not mentioned was the rear tailgate: Besides opening, I can also close it from inside the car, or using the foot gesture control which I love. It even beeps to warn you, and tested it on my friend and it will stop closing if it touches your head! Huge functional improvement, I use this every day with groceries, etc. My wife has a 2014 328GT and my newer car's gesture sensor is greatly improved. And I really like the interior (and exterior) night ambient lighting. Good review and I especially like being out with Thomas on the streets of Germany. So it's not all high speed Autobahn's?

I noticed when I got into the vehicle how quiet it was over the previous one. Was quite taken back at first. Also, the interior quality is definitely better. The outgoing model was lower quality. I also observed that the weather lining around front and back has a tighter seal also across the roof rails as well, why the second gen received such poor QA in regards to build is strange for a 50k to 60k range vehicle.

I think you may have a technical hitch. Adds are in German but I am watching in the UK. I normally watch the adds but no point in this one. 😀 Another great review which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for the review Thomas! If 6 L/100km is the lowest consumption achievable on low speed, that is actually quite bad. Toyota RAV4 averages these kind of numbers with all conditions combined.

The X3 comes better equipped than the X1 and the interior of the X3 is also better and more comfortable that the X1. The X1 would probably serve well in an urban setting, but if you want more of a cruiser then the X3 is a better option.

What is the fuel consumption of X3 30i? Please give some values for: Autobahn 130km/h constant, overland with 100km/h constant, big German city (Stuttgart, Frankfurt) with stop and go traffic? How would 30i 252PS compare to 20D 190PS? I drove X3 G01 20D from rental company Sixt and it returned ~8l/100km combined over 300km mix City/Оverland/Autobahn. If I get the 30i close to 9-9.5l combined, I will go for the petrol. Do you think this is achievable?

Compared to the new X5 and X7 these kidney grille is better, although it is close to being too big. Why not putting those on the X5 and X7 and putting a little bit more openings in the lower part (cooling)...

Well X1 is FWD, naturally it has way more leg room. Recently I tested a 2004 Laguna, a bit more legroom despite being 34cm shorter than my E32 :D

Love the reviews Thomas - they're always very comprehensive and detailed. However, there's nothing that beats a good quality real leather seat. I have a 2018 VW Alltrack SE with the "leatherette" seats. While it's nice. and certainly better than the vinyl of the olden days, it's not even close to leather. Also, it's not like cattle ranchers are slaughtering cows just for seat leather.

Thanks David! Cows are slaughtered for leather, it is the most profitable part of the body. It is not a byproduct of meat (just google "leather byproduct" and you ll find plenty of resources). And if a cow is being used for both, it doesnt matter for which cause she was killed. Nothing beats high quality seats for which no animals were killed - and I hope that manufacturers keep improving the more sustainable variant.

For sure there are quality differences, I think it depends on the stage of development, on the brand and even the model. Leatherette has improved massively over the years, but there are still different quality grades out there

Excellent review I enjoyed watching. Question, my 2021 X3 30i is getting rather poor fuel consumption. I filled the tank this morning and the range was approx 681km, I drove about 12km home and it’s sitting at 654 now. Is this accurate or will it adjust?

i found the x1 less premium and less spacious. the x2 had to many blind spots, the x3 is about as large as i want to go for my garage. the x5 is to tight and parking would be a daily struggle. the rebates were hard to turn down for the x3.
