BMW X5 E70 starting issue has been resolved, fuel pump relay problem

I replaced BMW X5 E70 fuel pump relay and it resolved starting issue in cold weather.

This is very educative . Actually I just brought a 2009 bow x5 v8 4.8i As soon as I got home I parked it turn the engine off, when I come back to show it to my wife , it would not start. 2009 BMW X5 4.8i with progressive hard start in cold weather. No codes on scan with Autophix 7910 BMW scanner. Battery was 6 yrs old, replaced with new and registered. No fix. Perplexing situation with no codes. Viewed your video, replaced relay...starts like should. For the people wondering where to get the relay, I found two at local auto parts stores that assure correct fit for my model. Advanced Auto parts Carquest premium mutipurpose relay #RAA1749, and Autozone Duralast relay #20843. Both are USD $ 31.99. Equal quality. Thanks for a meaningful video and your help.

Hi I've got issue with bmw e70 3.0d not starting. Fault code 6295. I've replace that green relay but still no start. Ive manually powered the pump and it still pumps fuel fine but there's no power getting to the pump. Is there anything else im missing? Thanks

I already fixed the problem, the throttle was jammed so they just did deep cleaning without changing them and the car is in perfect condition.

I have a 2003 BMW X5 3.0 and it has nothing to do with cold weather. The car shuts off and random moments like when I’m at the traffic light or making a turn to go … No mechanic seems to know what it is bccs it’s not throwing a code … my check engine light goes off and on as well … I’m reading that it could either be a bad fuel pump … a cam sensor or a fuel pump relay? The car starts back up after I sit for a couple of minutes so it’s not the alternator

Try the fuel pump relay. On my scan tool I watch the fuel pump voltage go to zero a second before it stalls. So I can see something turning off the fuel pump. Start with the relay, because when they go bad they also underdeliver the demand on the pump. My pump demand from the car was 4000rpm and the pump was only spinning 3000rpm so my fuel pressure was low. Also, after it stalls again feel if the relay is hot. Tell-tale sign of failure.

I have a E70 X5 diesel and my fuel pump relay is just to the left of the red tool. Mine is the big black relay. You can replace it with a Narva relay but make sure they give you one that is 70amp.

Ok so basically was driving home from work in my x5 e70 drove home now problem was in cold weather. Parked it up went to go back to work 2 hrs later came up with abs ebv 4x4 airbag warnings ignition goes on but no starting anyone had this problem before? Or knows what issue is please.

That’s the big black relay next to the red tool. Pulled mine as it’s a diesel, so is on the same relay, and when tried to crank, 4x4 and other warnings came up.

No. It shows the issue when it is too cold. It is around 30 dollars part.

what an odd place to put a relay. There's literally a fuse box next to it that they could have kept the relay, they simply had to make it a bit bigger. What the heck were they thinking.

2008, same design from 2007 to 2013.

​@@farshidolumi not so fast... from 2010 and up many details are different. some relays on the 2013 model do not even exist anymore or may have been replaced by different ones. The green one that was replaced on this video, do not exist on my 2013 model. Although the fuse box is exactly the same, some plugs that you see around it on this video, have been changed.

@@thierryg3049 That is my point. On the 2010 model you have the green relay, but I have the 2013 model and there is not that green relay. They have replaced it with another piece of electronic hidden under that bay, I can't remember the name, but costs 300+ dollars and apparently it never goes bust. In the end I had a starter motor issue. The EOM starter was only 130$, but it required to remove manifold and plenty of other parts, + a reverse elbow wrench and it took me about 8 hours of work. After replacing the starter, the car turned on with half press of the button.

Thx for the vid, (2009 BMW X5 3.0) I replaced mines and my vehicle started up but I noticed it seems like my miles to the gallon number goes down a lot faster (300 to 295) a 5 mile difference when I only drove about 2 miles, has anyone else experienced this?

Has nothing to do with relay. It may need a tune up or spark plugs changed.

@@reallifevideos192 genuine part 850-1200 Bosch 250. -323 Cheap ebay 150/200 Labor 3 hour at what ever rate these mechanics cost . Prices 1300 If you use the cheap one it won’t work good Bosch will last about a yr with gas mileage issues. The German only want original parts and they boobytrapped the car if you don’t use oe. Also have to change the sensor if you change the fuel pump
