My 2008 528i - 130k miles was running perfectly then failed to start at random after a grocery store stop. No Start, No Crank exact symptoms. Changing the relay did not work for me. I had to tow the car to a shop, installing a new starter was the solution. It's a 3.5 hrs to 4 hrs labor job. Thanks Auto Repair Guys for this suggestion, keep posting the videos. I had hoped it would work for me. Hopefully this fix works for others.

The relay is in the trunk of the 2008 528i. Same side as the battery. Not in the glove box. Auto zone and O'reilly Auto Parts stock the part. The BMW dealer spare shop was closed.

We tried this, the part is available for 8.99 at your local O'Reilly or auth parts store. Ours a 2008 BMW X5 was located in the rear right side of the cargo bay. Pull out a panel and it will be located behind a small sound blanket.

Dude after hours and hours of no luck, your video although different model than my 08 535xi ended up being in the rear passenger side panel was the location for my CAS Relay and BOOM fixed my no start. Ended up being faulty, intermittently working and could not figure out what the problem was. So any E60 models rear passenger side just above the battery you'll find yours.

This is a good tip. I have the same exact car as you and having the same exact issue. I bet this is going to be quite common considering the age. My battery is on the charger overnight after trying to disconnect to test the IBS from the neg battery post (didn't work). Hoping this is it! Thank you for your post and the details!

Hey guys, 2004 330ci BMW I've replaced pretty much everything under the hood. I jump started it from underneath the hood, not the battery in the back. No crank no start light blink😢😂😂 rapidly even when I'm not doing anything trying to crank it and the key is just on and still blinking on and off, the clicking is coming from beneath the disa. I don't know if you hear that click, but the round gear with the explanation mark is lit up. There is also clicking from behind the rear seat on the driver side.😢

Can this be an intermittent problem? I have this issue too. Being that all other modules and components are powered up that typi ally are when an ignition is in the "on" position, my first reaction was to jiggle the positive lead under the bonnet that runs off of the main post directly to the starter. The logic being a possible dirty connection between those terminals. It seems to have been working. But again... Could it just really be that relay happening to cool down enough to start while I'm out of the car jiggling that cable for nothing? All decent replies are appreciated.

Sometime, if you have one of those BMW with the keyless access, it could just be a tired or dead battery on the key fob. So.... before ordering a new relay or starter, just try to replace the 2032 battery inside the key fob.If the key fob does not send the signal to the immobilizer to let the car start, when you press the start button, it may crank but not let the engine start.

Comfort access uses a 2032 and doesn't recharge when plugged in. Non-CA uses a proprietary rechargeable battery and recharges when plugged in.

Hey this is a great video! but I can’t seem to figure out if it’s the same issue with my 2008 bmw 535xi. My alternator was bad so we replaced it but beforehand we replaced the battery. Battery wasn’t the issue however we left the new battery in. This was about a month ago and today I attempted to replace the battery back to the old one, we had to jump start it and it turned on after a few times trying and leaving it connected for a good 30 min. Left it on for 1 hour and turned it off and tried turning it on a few times but wouldn’t work. We reapplied the new battery and same thing, this time it wouldn’t make a sound while turning on but all the electrical components work and it was reading 12.1 v to 12.3v. Do you think it may be the starter after attempting to start up the vehicle after many many times? Or what could it be

Hi there, I have a 2009 320D that has a frustrating issue where after driving for a while in hot weather it refuses to crank when you try to re-start. If I wait about 30 minutes it starts and runs without any issues. No error codes are being returned, it has full normal dash lights, accessories etc, it just doesn't crank. Yeah I found out my starter cable runs all the way in the back trunk connecting to the Terminal Distribution Fuse Junction Plate and that's why my suv wouldn't start. I tested all the positive cables and found out one wasn't hot which was the starter cable.

Smog guy told me to switch to 50/50 conventional oil n lucas oil. Any suggestions? Ty!

At first i had relay ignition,injection line disconnection.Replace the ivm and that fixed that problem.now > have multiple codes,all short to ground.Supply terminal 15 1b 53and54 codes, Map t-stat activation 1d24-02 Fuel level sensor,right signal 1931-02, Vanos exhaust&inlet Solenoid1300,1302, Crankcase vent heating 1605, Intake&exhaust camshaft sensors 1640-20,1640-30, Blow off activation 1220, O2 sensor b4 cat conv. 12b1, Air mass flow sensor signal electrical fault 102-A0. All say short to grnd.
