Great Autogefeuhl show and tell walk through the new features plus handling and practical tips. I have a 2021 X5 and it’s excellent. BMW is best value for the price and their reliability now since about 2009 to present is off the charts good, number 3 behind Toyota and Lexus which means these BMWs will live “forever” if maintained properly. Their styling is timeless for all models.

I always find your reviews the best on the net, thank you for that… I picked up a new 50e at the end of April and coming from a 2017 Jeep GC Summit it is like night and day! One thing I see you didn’t cover is the different driving packages, which at 150 MPH on the Autobahn probably wouldn’t matter that much. But the ability of this wonderful vehicle using cameras, radar and other different sensers is simply amazing!!! Again, thanks for the review… BTW, next time I’d like to see the passenger. These new headlights with the signature are just a reminiscence of how awesome the halo lights were before. They look like the custom headlights we had in 2005 in the „tuning“ scene, with blocky leds. Just bad. Backlights are awesome though

At 2:32 , I have the pre face lift and the rear wheels doesn’t steer when stand still, only when moving. It’s not new in the LCI model. It’s very smart from BMW, as this car is heavy, 2.4tonnes plus.

I'm driving a 2024 X5 xDrive40i for the last 10 days .. To me - Pros: Instant power at your disposal, very good gas mileage Cons: A bit overwhelming tech, buggy Wireless Apple Carplay - had too many issues with the connection Too many moving parts and I'm not sure how the maintenance will be for all these tech. What are the thoughts from the @autogefuel and the viewers on reliability and maintenance costs atleast from a 2023 model perspective?

In terms of quality going from Mercedes to BMW was for me like night and day...overall quality in BMW is top notch, what you would expect from that price range, I was really disappointed with Mercedes quality, not sure what they are thinking in Mercedes lately, but I guess appearance over quality seems a winning strategy for Mercedes anyway, since most of the people don't care too much about quality anymore...but I'm definitely happy with X5 so far (2018 model, close to 140k km, no issues)

I have to agree, Mercedes has gone down quality wise (look and feel both and reliability) whereas BMW went up in both aspects. It seems to be something like an engineering wave throughout the decades, going up and down

@@autogefuehlbmws, the fairly new ones are unreliable post warranty. I have a friend who owns popular workshop in my country and there are plenty of fairly new bmws who come there as he described “with rather serious mechanical issues”. This cured me out from buying a used bmw.

A great review, thank you Thomas! If my fellow viewers could help me with a dilemma, I'd appreciate it :-) I'm very interested in the 50e as I've ruled out the 45e - I like the bigger battery pack, the more HP, and the facelift. However, the price difference between 45e and 50e is so big it really makes one stop and think: does one REALLY need the newer version? My driving would be mostly in and around the city, rather shorter and more frequent commutes, and with 1-2x a week distances of about 100km at one time. I'd prefer not to go for the purely petrol version. Would it make sense to go for 40d? Again, the price difference between a 40d (which also gives you good HPs) and the 50e is astounding... Well, bottom line, is the 50e a sensible option? In my country there's no advantage of owning an EV/hybrid when it comes to taxation or city driving. The only advantage I think is the fact that when used for private rides (as a company car) one pays 0.25% instead of 1%. But then again, this would not be too many kilometres in a year to excuse the price difference. What do you guys think, which is the sensible option? Cheers :)

I use voice commands pretty much for everything, especially for climate control and don't have to touch anything in screen. physical buttons would have been great addition though but not a deal breaker. I love the fact that all the buttons on steering wheel are real.

We have the current (now old) X5 45e and think it’s a fine car. The only issues I have with it is the limited leg room in the back seat and the overly firm central rear seat - the kids hate sitting in the middle on a long journey as it’s just too uncomfortable. Although the actual car is big on the outside it’s surprisingly cramped on the inside. It’s been to the south of France many times now (just coming up three years old in Jan ‘24) and on the long drives down there it averages around 31mpg. Not too bad for a 2.5t car with 5 people on board and a full boot. I’m not a massive fan of the new BMW dash and the car as a whole just isn’t different enough from the car we have to consider replacing it with this new model. We’ll probably change brand this time around but might consider the X5 again when the full model replacement comes out in a few years time.

It's very odd this 50e has real wheel steering because you couldn't and still can't order it for the 50e and no one knows when or if it will ever be available again. Really surprised this 50e has it since the only model it comes with is the M60i, where it is standard.

It seems the European versions of the M Sports have additional M badges/emblems on the sides of the vehicle near the wheel arches. The US versions of the M Sport doesn't come with these additional badges 😮

Hi Thomas. I remember owning a 2008 Buick Enclave with dual-exhaust pipes, which were connected to the tail pipes. The tips of the pipes where extemely hot, of course, and would burn skin if mistakenly touched. This may be a concern when cleaning the vehicle or opening models with sensors that open the rear hatch. I also owned a 2013 Buick Enclave, which had the same exhaust pipes, however, the tail pipes weren't connected to the exiting area. Therefore, the tempurature of the exhaust didn't matter, if the cosmetic chrome areas were touched. It wasn't no where near as cool as the 2008's. However, it was definitely safer? I now own a 2018 Buick Enclave, the exhaust pipes are connected to the tail pipes. However, I have never touched them while the vehicle is hot! I am definitely gun shy!! Do you think that may be one reason why several manufacturers may not connect exhaust pipes to the tail pipes, other than it costs them more?

I think if comfort and luxury is a focus, the GLE wins this generation. It is more expensive but interior looks so much better on the GLE! Lack of physical buttons on the X5 just makes it seem bland.

@@autogefuehl Yeah I know for sure lasers are gone for Europe as Im looking for an LCI to buy. What I mean by back doors is when you disable automatic unlock when approaching a car it will unlock when pulling the door handle. So now you can do this only on frond doors, it wont work on the back ones

Yes, if you live in a city you will almost certainly disable Auto Unlock on approach, so you rely on touching the door handle to open the door. If you have kids, chances are you'll want to open the rear doors first - that now no longer works on this gen. Also - no distance control on the steering wheel for the adaptive cruise, no steering wheel heating button on the wheel, and no favourites buttons!
