Thanks. I was doing the same think as you and found your video. I thought the striker was supposed to be tight as well but apparently not. I ended up spraying wd 40 around the striker to displace any water and make it easier for it to move around. That did the trick. Trunk lid is locking again. Thanks for this Video

Tried this recently on a 2013 X5 50i. Got as far as the the small cover panel on the handle that wouldn’t pop off without mangling both, and realized the squeeze wasn’t worth the juice.

Omg same issue, until my 15mm screws popped out when I opened my trunk. Now I can’t even we screw it back in. Trunk light is always on draining my battery. What do you think about welding it together?

Are you talking about welding that latch so it doesn't rattle? I would not advise that. What I found to be causing my rattles were the lift hatch stops were way out of adjustment. I have another video on how to adjust those. If you haven't tried that already, give it a go first.

Very helpful information. I am looking for instructions to remove bottom trim panel cover on my 2020 G05 (with auto open/close button). But I could not find any related video online. Yours is closest I can find. I hope the mechanism is very similar. But if anyone saw this video and my comment and does know the instructions, please point me in the right direction. Couldn't you slip some material to pad in between the solenoid and the surface of the plastic to stop the rattling? Also, if it is not rattling and only squeaking, then the lock hooks on each side of the suv that connects to the upper door may need to be readjusted. That happened to me.

I tried to find a way to put something under that latch hook but didn't see anyway to access that area without disassembling the entire solenoid assembly. It may be possible, I just didn't take the time to do it. I have another video ready to edit where I solve the rattling issue by adjusting the stops, as you mentioned. I didn't see the adjustment until I took apart the dumb tailgate and found out that closing mechanism was like 400 bucks to replace. No thanks! The adjustment has taken up most of the popping I was hearing anyway.

The insulation padding gets caught on sheet metal lip and a clip. With the door open, lift up the panel and look inside, reach in with your fingers or the pry tool and free the padding from the sheet metal lip along the center 3/4rds of the door. Then hit the edge of the panel from which you previously removed the five T15 screws to encourage the panel to pop past the latch.

Wow I have the same exact problem. I had to put tape around it to cushion the door lock from causing it to rattle. Wow I thought I t was just me.

Hi I have 2008 BMW X5 my trunk didn’t want to close the finally close but then I couldn’t open it sounds like is releasing but won’t open I need to go inside and pull the trunk-release lever and will open anybody have the same issue?
