Hello Jimmy, I´m from Brazil and I observed that the oil level is a "little" low, although the soft cover is working. Please, I would like to know wlat are the specifications for this hidraulic oil in order to fill it up. Please, could you help me? Thanks a lot!

I try to use only BMW top fluid. I believe it is a mineral oil, but I would use the exact product since the wrong fluid could end up much more costly later on.

Yeah, the hydraulics work like a power steering system. No fluid, nothing happens but noise. :)

The actual sequence to fold the top is as follows........Ignition on, unlatch lift top with left hand, Put index finger of right hand in ear, start to whistle Up Town Funk, and press button with nose ;-)

What kind of oil you use for this work ?

There is a BMW top oil, also aftermarket compatible versions. Any good auto parts should have it, we get it from Napa.

After that video I'm glad my Z3 is a manual soft top. Even the automatic convertible top on the Boxster is a pain in the a$$.

So, as others have asked,....what did you find, where was the leak if it had one and what did it take to fix it? We all want to know.

The cylinders had slow leaks, customer declined repairs so we just topped off the fluid to monitor how long it takes to go low again. If it leaks fast they have to be fixed or the top has to stay up.

I remove my top motor altogether and work it manually. Easy peasy. Motors are always failing.

Yeah, usually hydraulic leaks or a switch. But no electronics makes it easy peasy.

@@jamesfenton1519, he mentioned in an earlier reply that there was a slow leak in the cylinders. The correct hydraulic fluid is CHF 11s.
