That s54 engine man..there’s just something so mechanical and granular about it’s nature that’s hard to describe, people can say the v10 or v8 is the pinnacle but for me that barking mechanical induction noise can’t and will never be matched. BMW at their absolute best.

If I had to choose between the Z4M & the e46 M3 it would always be the e46 for me as I prefer the looks and the interior. But do agree, the Z4M given that it’s an exclusive 2 seater with one BMW’s best engines and handling tweaks you would think they would be twice the price! Such a shame this video was let down with interior audio recording (thankfully times have changed and I have some decent microphones)

It is a gorgeous z4m! Thank you for the cool video. A bit of a shame you didn't have a proper mic though, as your voice was very quiet. It's a surprise that the Z4M is almost the same weight as an E46 M3 too. I would have thought it would be at least 150+ kg lighter.
@stoneautomotive4 жыл бұрын
Your welcome & glad you enjoyed 😎 The videos shortly after this are now filmed with a proper microphone - something I hadn’t noticed massively when editing but always double check on head phones to ensure the audio quality is suitable 👍 (life of learning KZbin 😅)

Running alpha n with Geoff steel intake on my e46. Hated it to start off with and was always intending to do maf. Weirdly you just learn to drive around any flat spot and don’t notice any flaw 6 months in.... cold start is a bit lumpy in my opinion 🤷♂️
@chrisg4rr3775 жыл бұрын
Mine doesn't have any flat spots(my tuner apparently did a custom alpha n) but on really cold mornings it does do lumpy when pulling away for about 20 meters. Then its all good
@stoneautomotive5 жыл бұрын
Alpha N is more than usable but no match for the MAP sensor built cars, I drove one on the open trumpet set-up (rubbish) and then this one which wasn’t an issue for even low speed driving, as per G4RR377 comments I think a lot of it comes down to who fitted/ mapped it

What most don't realize, is BMW horsepower ain't equal to our north American standard ,,,it's higher ... my old 1989 325i with a 190 generous hp , was shaming Mustangs with 60 hp more than me lol 😆,, gotta get an m coupe .. that engine is already race proven .. crazy video my good sir

about that diff ratio 4.1, I considered it as well on my M3, but the guys that I spoke with told me that it's more for track use. they said, you'll then make your 6th gear completely useless. can you comment on that with your driving experience?
@stoneautomotive4 жыл бұрын
Who ever advised you of that has never used one on the road lol.. I actually have a 4.1 Z4M diff now installed on my e46 M3 and drove 450 miles from London to Scotland on the motorway with zero issues, fuel consumption doesn’t appear to have changed at all either. In 6th gear it sits roughly 500rpm higher than the standard diff ratio - it’s one of the best modifications you can do to improve acceleration/ torque, every gear feels alive (if you watch my Euro trip video vs the North coast 500 you can hear the difference on the hair pin climbs.
@southpawsir57314 жыл бұрын
@@stoneautomotive Thanks for your reply. I now have a standard 3.64 ratio with a new V10 E60 M5 rebuild Diff. (thats a huge handling upgrade) But if I'm correct it's always possible to change out the pinion for the 4.1 ratio. I'm diving right back in this subject. Cheers.

About the CSL steering wrack, is it a simple retrofit? Read somewhere that you also need to change steering position sensors for TC calibration...
@stoneautomotive4 жыл бұрын
This was something I had read about when i installed the purple tag rack (not the same ratio as the blue tag (CSL rack) but shorter ratio than the green tag rack (stock) From what I had researched the pre-LCI can throw an abs/traction fault from the yaw sensor but the LCI is not a problem - my e46 runs the purple tag with no fault lights/codes

In terms of pace/ handling/ sound very similar (dare I say it I missed the SMG 😬) Very similar in many ways but the e46 is still king of that class for me but obviously it will be a personal opinion! As the video should hopefully show it really was a lovely car
