Hey guys, so I was in the mix of doing my X5 S63 video and mixed around my words a little. All M5’s have the S63TU engine, however there were more reliability concerns with the 2013 such as injectors, HPFP and a few other things. A few additional upgrades took place shortly in the years to come post 2013, but just wanted to point that out. By all means you can find a great 2013 and definitely buy it if it has been well maintained. Once you get to 2015 + there are cosmetic changes that refresh it nicely like my 2016 if getting certain packages which makes it have that “updated” look. Thanks again for checking out the video! Call me crazy, but I’ve looked at 3 2013 F10 M5 and they all had the s63b44t (Technical Update) engines. So, I’m a bit confused when you say you avoided that year because it didn’t have the “TU”. Am I mistaken on something?

Are requesting pre purchase inspections from BMW and collision experts something they’re supposed to be willing to do? The reason I ask is because they’ll be spending money not knowing if you qualify unless you qualified already at your own bank.

Yeah I came across one that won’t cover it, but I had my mind set on Fidelity which was $300 deductible and covered for up to 75k miles or 5 years whichever comes first

Having had a 2014 M5, just wait until you have to start buying parts with your own money. My car was great during the warranty period but as soon as the warranty ended I was shocked to learn how much parts cost. BMW parts prices are always crazy but I found that the M5 parts were often 30-50% more since the M5 model is “special”. Definately would not recommend an out of warranty M5!

@@eastoakland-S65feen I’ve got an e92 M3 right now and I’m absolutely in love with it... that is when it’s not catastrophically broken. I had the manual trans go out on me at 68K miles which cost a small fortune (that may have been due to a series of heavy track duty and daily driving, both of which it excels at). Just have some money set aside for the occasional sensor/small plastic bit in a critical area. Other than that, there’s nothing like the S65 engine

Do not rely on BMW for a pre purchase inspection. I've already sold 2 F30s and always took it to their inspection so I can show the prospect buyer some "peace of mind", long story short their inspection is a joke. They look at the top of the engine, under for visible leaks, they run the ac/heater to check it works, door/hingers and tire pressure and out you go. They never connect a scanning tool or anything as the key stores any codes, but if there's a code they only state to "schedule maintenance" not even tell you what the code is for. So anyone interested in buying a used BMW, just ignore or don't put all your hopes of reliability on a free Pre Purchase Inspection. Rather take it to a shop which specializes in bmw (plenty of former BMW master techs have their own shops now) for a full through inspection.

While shopping for these I’ve come across a lot of comments saying “get your warranty ready”. This is an M5, not a Lexus or Toyota. PARTS are not expensive for German cars. It’s the labor. So avoid the dealer. Go to someone you know or do it yourself if you have a problem. Simple

Example...say they’re giving an M5 for 30k right, but then in the interior there are some flaws cosmetic that doesn’t make you so happy but you still want it. And so you tell the sales man can you fix that and they respond with , well that’s why we dropped it to that price . But you just said don’t buy it till they fix it. What are you supposed to do?

@David Tsiligian Hi David, I'm very happy with my bmw purchase. I bought it in the fall, and it's in storage for the winter. You are obviously looking for a luxury car that is very fast, and unassuming. It does not disappoint! Very easy to speed, as you would imagine. I've watched several videos before and after buying, heard of the steering wheel feel being rough, feels great to me! I've heard of rod bearing failures in the engine, and I think I can avoid these issues by keeping the rpms below 4,000, and doing regular oil changes. Keep in mind that if you buy the car, there are 2 manual modes, M1 and M2, which you can easily program the ride handling and whatnot to your liking, but most importantly, when you are in M1 or M2 mode, the car is no longer an automatic. You paddle shift the car. Pretty easy to do, but you need to be aware that you are now shifting, and not the car. Another very common problem is the turbo coolant lines leaking on top the motor. The factory uses cheap heat flashing around the hoses, which doesn't last long. I was hooked on a c6 grand sport corvette for the longest time but the only one relatively close to me just sold and now everything else in the nation is too far and out of my price range. Just stumbled on the f10 m5 a few hours ago out of frustration of the car I had my heart set on for 6 months and I’m really liking a lot of things about this bmw. I live in California so weathers fine for me to drive year round and I don’t put anymore than 6K miles a year. Need an upgrade from my 2.0t audi lol sitting at 150k miles with boost leak it’s an absolute slug

@David Tsiligian I was going to buy a vette, and was very close to pulling the trigger! For me, a couple reasons why I didn't... vettes are 2 seaters. Most the time it's usually just me and my wife, but it's nice to haul 3 people in the back seat, if needed. 2. The M5 just looks like a luxury sports car, and isn't an attention magnet with cops. That too is no big deal if one is behaving. You can get a ticket just as easily in an M5! I'm still very tempted to buy a vette, and I'm trying to not think about it, because thoughts are things! It all starts with a thought, and before you know it, you've bought the car! Insurance on the M5 isn't cheap, as one would expect. My 68 charger has 450 hp, and my M5 would kill it in a back road race. It is best to drive my charger first, then the M5. Then I'm not going into a slower vehicle!

I live in Virginia and my search for a perfect 2018 640i convertible was similar to yours. My beauty came from California with only 9k the clock. I have a very good friend who is also the local Cadillac dealer and he was able to source it for me. I have owned many luxury cars but this BMW is just amazing. Hey, hope you're doing good. I have been looking out to buy an F10 m5. So yesterday I went to test drive 2014 with 75k base model. And honestly, I was really disappointed with how it handles and how old it felt. Suspension and steering felt lose like not tight or firm and the transmission felt jerky and the power I felt was not there. BTW I daily drive a 2016 328i. Do you think it was just this specific car or is it because of the miles?

Something is definitely wrong with that M5 u road tested. Sounds like some issues already. I bought a 2014 M5 with 24,454 miles for 57k. No issues, a Beast of a car. If u maintain it, it should give u a lot of years.

I’m seeing a bunch of 2013’s between 30-80k miles on the market for 29-39k. Same search as you. I really want one, but not if they’re gonna lemon out within 20-30k miles. Not sure if the amount of the 13’s on the market relative to others is a red flag

I have a 2013 M5 with 75k miles, and know people with 2013 M5's with 120k miles and no major issues, just get one with a complete service history. The scary truth people don't want to hear is any year F10 M5 is capable of major problems or failures, just keep up on maintenance.
