I don’t think the F10 M5 has rod bearing issues. And the issues that may have came up have to do more with people using wrong oil or not letting the car warm up properly before driving hard

@@Ace-dh5lz maybe 2011-2013 because the S63 motor was revised for 2014-2016 I think it also has a different code name I think it’s called S63TU

@@ahmedalyafi9652 all of them have that issue and the 2013-16 f10 m5 had the tu the x5 x6 ms of 2013 didnt. The only revision to the s63tu was in 2016 and the only change was fuel ejectors. Its all over the forums of spun rod bearings even on 30k mile well maintained engines

Great car - expensive though. I wish Comfort Access was standard package for a car pushing 100k msrp. - also AUTO Stop/Start cant be permanently disabled has to be annoying and wear out starter/flywheel prematurely.

Thanks man! Really all depends where you take it to honesty as some shops or dealers only accept or do not accept certain ones. Mine is through Fidelity which my local BMW dealership does work with and has no issues with submitting claims, etc

I am looking into getting one at carmax and spend $4k on warranty for additional 50k miles. Then just enjoy the car and not worry about any issues. Then sell the car along with the transferable warranty with balance left.

King or Acl with the extra gap 0.025 i think it is BUT use a THICKER oil 5w50 or at least a thick w40 like redline. If you use a w30 or a shitty watery w40 that extra space will just make everything worse and the oil will not be able to work as a damper. I only use redline, troy jeup agrees, and it makes perfect sense for this car.

Are those project gamma intakes (and other front intakes) safe for rain or car washes? I'm concerned about getting the filters wet.

The filters have a water proofing shield on them that still allows air flow, but helps with the water. I do my own car washes so I just don’t spray directly on the filters. They have been tested to be fine in the rain which mine did great when I drove my M5 in the snow and the filters had snow covered on them then melted.

If you’re in the Midwest don’t! I took mine off and went back to factory which is actually cold air as well just gets filtered in line, front cones caused nothing but issues for more

i have the black and decker one. very lightweight and works well. Harbor Freight carries the same one made by Vector. I hardwired the connections to the battery, so when its not being driven i just pull out the charger out of the trunk and plug it in. Like an iphone haha!

When do you suggest getting the rod bearings done? Also I’ve yet to understand why everyone says 5w-40... admittedly I don’t I’ve in the US so summers are likely colder here BUT I’m 99% sure BMW know what they’re doing with oil grades. What they don’t know is how hard people drive and wether or not the car was fully warm when doing so. This is why personally I’d suggest more regular oil changes then different oil.

0w-30 is decent no doubt, but gets too thin when it’s hot in the summer months so bumping up the weight just a little helps with that

No this isn’t naturally aspirated like the E60 M5 or E92 M3.

Other than the rod bearings, which are only an issue if the car is driven hard, the valve guide seals are the major culprit on those engines. The heat from the top/center-mounted turbos and cat converters causes the rubber valve stem seals to harden resulting in smoking exhaust due to oil burning. Servicing the seals as well as the rod bearings necessitates removing the engine from the car.

@The Insufferable Tool Other than replacing the valve guide seals periodically, the problem will continue as long as the turbochargers aren't vented to properly disperse the heat they generate in their confined location. I'm sure BMW is working on this, but so far, I'm unaware of any changes.

Interesting I been doing m5 services for years and never encountered a customer having issues with rod bearings… any rod bearings on any car can go out equality it’s how often the oil is changed and maintained, dad owns a f10 for years drives it hard changes the oil maintenance has 150k miles and no issues! 🤞

@@Psitriesitall I know the reason why. Some officially retarded dealers obey the Germans suggestion of 0-30 oil that they use in cold weather Germany.. They suggest that oil for all.. Thats criminality.. Like in my country that oil becomes water in half hour..

They do have ambient lighting. All f10 do they're just plain. Pre LCI orange color only. LCI (2014-2016) have added white color along with the OG orange.

Just past the 1-year anniversary with my F10. Mileage was higher than yours but I would definitely recommend not using this as a daily driver if it has more than 60,000 miles on it!
