Extracted for BMXMUSEUM Here is an email I got from an actual employee of GT: "There were at least four companies in Taiwan that made the GT lines : Robinson, Dyno, Powerlite and Auburn included) If the frame was made overseas in Taiwan, it gets more complicated. If the number starts with a K, the frame was made by Kinesis. The information might also come in handy for deciphering other makes because the factories in Taiwan make bikes for a lot of different companies." Those lower end bmx might be made in Taiwan by original GT?

Yeah basically these are royce union/pacific bicycles with GT decals and fake stampings. That one dyno may have been an original stamped plate welded on to a different/ newer frame. And only the 1987 Pro Performer/Freestyle Tour GT had under bottom bracket mounted brakes but never v-brake style. Don't remember which model but it was only one of those two possibly very late '86 but not after '87. The 1988 models I believe were no longer offered with under bottom bracket brakes not sure on this.

Got an old Haro frame and forks from the early mid 80’s I’ve had in storage .. We traded bikes and parts as kids so much that I’m not sure what i have .. It has all the frame stamps and dropout design of an 85-86 Haro sport but the serial numbers don’t match anything? I called Haro corporate directly and ask them about it and they said that the database is so massive due to them producing so many bikes back then without documenting each factory outsourcing that they are now forced to refer people to their pictorial database for one to find the correct year based on frame design and color match… Has anyone seen Haro’s with abnormal serial numbers that is all numbers and start with a 6 and ends with 85? Thanks !

In my country Indonesia; there’s a fake GT copied with serial YF since 86/87 looks identical with the OG, but if you looks closely you will find the different between the OG one. When they were released bitd 86/87 some with goods parts on it such as skyway mags. And after I found some old man sellers at some bikes shop here around 1999-2000 who still live, they tell me that those (fake) bike was ordered by them from taiwan (some re-build -welding in my country) to reduce the price. Nice one. I do try to get out on my old school and mid school bikes. Certainly not as often as I would like. But that’s more to do with a lack of time than desire.
