I noticed your bike moved backwards before the gate moved. Is that allowed? If so, could you wheelie over the gate so your back wheel is hitting it as it drops? That would give you a head start assuming everyone else didn't do that. Another trick is you back way off so you get rolling faster before the gate moves. Wheelie so your wheel is hitting the upper part of the gate for more distance and it's moving faster than the lower part.

@@Murdxr. Back in 1978 at Craigmeur in NJ, everyone did one-pedal starts. Jumping the gate was standard. My sprocket would typically hit the gate as it fell. One strategy was to angle your bike toward the guy you wanted to block. BMX was like football on wheels. A lot more rules were added and enforced by 1980.
