This is so bizarre- I went to school with Mark. I’m more into bmx racing but all kinds of bike videos pop up in my feed. I was about five minutes into this video and was suddenly hit with the realization that this is the guy one class ahead of me that was always tooling around on a freestyle bike. I haven’t heard from or seen him in 30 years. What a bizarre world to come across him in a random video like this.

The sealed bearings in the U Brakes is interesting but i remember using ACS Boa Caliper Brakes that had open ball bearings that were hidden behind a rubber seal and a dial on nut and having to crack open sealed bearings in a vice to replace the bearings i had lost when they failed.

As a flat rider myself sometimes you need to make your own stuff to keep riding. Once had to use an unsealed axle in a sealed hub cause i couldnt find a replacment axle . Did it by theading a nut to act as a shoulder for the bearngs to seat against inside the hub shell on both sides and i never had a problem. Even recently had some frame mods to do to except 14mm axle on the rear because most flat bikes only made for 3/8ths.

I'm not into BMX... more road and gravel cycling. I guess the algorythm pushed it a little when this appeared in my feed.... My day job though, is mechanical designer and my dad is a retired machinist with a shop full of tools and machines... I totally get this and csn confirm this is proper mad scientist wizardry right there!!!

Amazing. It’s cool to see so much innovation - brakes, spokes, forks etc! Did you get the weight of the bike? I’ve been weening my flatland bike down to 26.5lbs (ground master with carbon rims, two brakes, 145mm cranks etc), but I’d imagine Mark’s bike would be a fair bit less?
