Dude, I had a Lowe 1448 Jon w a 40hp yam 2-stroke. Decked bow and stern, poling platform, more. One of the best creek fishing boats I've ever had. Poles like a dream with one hand. Had it all around the harbor and creeks in Charleston. Hard to kill a Jon boat. Great for dropping anchors or cast nets, etc. Even had a duck hunting blind for it. Gigged out of it, fly fish in the grass, spin fish anywhere, shrimping, oystering, and more.

I definitely want to build something very similar to this. The only problem would be getting it to fit in my backyard
@clearconcisecourteous96472 жыл бұрын
🤔🤔🤔... I thought that I had the same problem... Then I went to Home Depot... Bought: 4 ... galvanized fencing pipe... 4... corners... 2... heavy duty gate hindges Heavy duty Gate latch... 2... bags of Qwickset Concrete I then picked my spot between 2 existing solid healthy posts... re-enforced them with the galvanized poles set in concrete. Once dried... I added another hundred or so nails with the nailer to the pickets to reinforce them... then simply cut out that panel... laid on ground... then built a metal "gate" on top of the panel using the 4 corners strapping/ screwing it down to the 2x4s on the panel. Since my panels are so wide... I then added a "trailer-jack". Works great...👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 Now have 2 boats in the backyard under carports that I built. Been running underground power back there...(75ft) for the batteries because I'm tired of dragging 150ft of extention cords...!!! You can do it... too...!!! 🙂😉👍🏾

Saw this video and this boat is the perfect set up, my question would be is an aluminum boat easier to pole than a heavier fiberglass boat ? How does an aluminum boat hold up in saltwater , and how much did your poling platform cost ?
@FishandsurfChs4 жыл бұрын
So I’ll try to answer these in order. Yes the aluminum is way easier than a fiberglass boat because it’s a completely flat bottom and way lighter. Aluminum holds up fine in the salt water as long as it’s rinsed off and cleaned. Unfortunately all hardware suffers holding the boat together so I am slowly converting it to stainless. The poling platform was done by a family friend so the price really isn’t relevant because it was way lower than normal.

Sweet. I have a Lowe 16 ft modified V, riveted n welded Jon boat also. Love the thing more than any other boat I've ever owned. Glad also to hear you talk about all the bs people try and sell you. It's nonstop until you've done so much mods yourself people run out of things to offer you. Lol I build everything myself from deck, hatches, mini tower, etc every single thing that wasn't factory in 88' I've hand built myself. Worth buying a decent welder for aluminum especially for transom replacement etc. Some times need weld rivets just won't work but I didn't use rivets where I can get away with it. I'm also redoing my trailer atm the back brace is rusty n sagging a little so cutting it out and welding in a new brace, new leaf springs, and new solid axle to go with new tires and repainted trailer wheels. Would cost me more than the cost to buy a welder new and supplies vs buying a new trailer or bringing somewhere to fix it for me. Defanetly worth the investment for future and aluminum boats are the way to go over heavy fiberglass (unless going offshore).

They are just so easily customizable. And manageable at that. Thank god for tig welding! I think it’s possible to save money on trailer work but I see the possibility of just cutting losses and buying one new. Thanks for the interest man, stay fishing tight lines🤘🏻

Edit: I did use rivets where could and welds only where rivets do not work well.

@@FishandsurfChs I hear on some trailers but mine is galvanized and the only reason the back brace is shot is because some ahole hit it years ago and compromised the galvanizing on that rear brace. So over time rusted but besides needing that brace replaced and adding new u joints leaf springs etc is cheap. New trailer would cost me way more and someone would just fix this one and sell it. Since my boat weighs less than 600lbs loaded doesn't need a huge trailer. Will cost me couple hours of my time and probably $200 and trailer will be like new for next 5 years. My grandfather bought this Lowe new in 88' and we have already replaced everything a couple times over the decades of use it's given us. Unfortunately gramps passed away couple years ago so just me working on it these days. My son will take to it he lives boats n fishing but he's only 10 so the building repair parts are still too boring for him. In couple years he will pick up building/repairing things I'm sure. Also aluminum is so much easier to clean and maintain compared to fiberglass not to mention 6 gallons of fuel keeps me going all day/night with my 2 stroke 25hp and no fiberglass boats have a 6" draft and sip fuel (fuel doesn't seem like big deal but if your a daily sportsman it adds up quick) Tight rivets and tight lines✌🏼
