here's is then transcription of her education moment. Hope this helps. Definitely listen to her first. Her tone is perfect. I delivered it to my group Tuesday, as we've been having ALOT of absences lately with out subs and it's been pissing me off. It was very powerful. I only changed the math at the end to be relevant to our group. Good Luck! The empty chair I have a question for you today. I have a prop.for my education minute today. And I’d like you to tell me what it is.. what is this? - a chair Ok What kind of chair is it? Ok, what else is it? - guesses - Does it have anyone sitting in it today? No? so it’s an empty chair, right? So in BNI what does an empty chair represent? Guesses - Someone not there? Right, someone not there. And when you think about someone in your chapter not being there, are they able to give you a referral this week, David? -no Are they here to listen to your 60 second commercial? -no Somer - you're speaking today - how are you feeling about this person not bothering to get here today. And not hearing your 10 minute presentation you prepared? And can I pass this person my referral today? -no And what about the person who took the time to write that heartfelt testimonial for this person who’s not here today? -no So when someone’s not here in our chapter today, are they passing you a referral today? Yes or no? And because they weren’t here today, when they come next week, having not heard your 60 second commercial and your specific ask, are they then going to walk into the chapter next week with TWO referrals to make up for the fact that they weren’t here this week? -No. Probably not, exactly. So when there is an absence, or when there’s an empty chair in your chapter, youre not just missing out one referral, you’re actually missing out on 2 they were going to bring. So this chapter has had more than 25 absences in the last 2 months so that’s 25 times 2 which is ?? 50 And the average value of a referral in this chapter is $1,300 So if you multiply that out… that $65,000 that’s a lot of money we’re missing out on because we have one of these empty chairs in our chapter. So the next time you think about being absent. Think about how much money everyone in the chapter is missing out on by having an empty chair.
