Beautiful job recording this Train in this Section. Growing up our family stayed with my Dad’s Aunt between the Pinecliffe Tunnel 27 in the direction of Denver. We spent quite a bit of time down by the tracks and South Boulder Creek. Thanks! 👍

@@travelingtom923 I don't know about 40 but a lot busier for sure . DRG&W ran a much shorter train back then and trains have become enormous these days ! This and the loss of freight to trucks accounts for the lower frequency of trains to a great degree !

Long long train. I suddenly am excited like I’d get as a girl watching trains and hearing train sounds. I’d love it more when the crossing gates came down and we were in the first car at the gate. I rarely see trains anymore. Sad. The funniest train story was staying in a motel near /in Navajoland (reservations) in Arizona. Billboard signs for miles approaching the motel said: Quiet. Off highway, no train noise. During the night periodically our motel room lit up and shook as trains came by- looked out the little bathroom window and the trains were on tracks extremely close to the back of the motel, unseen when tourists checked in! The noise was deafening. The baby slept through all the hourly trains.

Over a 4% grade. The second part looks like Big 10 Curve. Isn't it? I put together an 150 car loaded coal train in Train Simulator across Rollins Pass. I had a great mix of 90MACs and tunnel motors in three sets. I pulled the mountain really good. I kept around 20 mph. I looked behind me after going around Big 10 Curve with the hopper car wind break. The lead was against the mountain and the tail was around where you were.
@travelingtom9234 жыл бұрын
No the train climbed big ten curve about 5 minutes earlier. They say the grade is 2% but I swear that hill has to be over 2%. Here is the location www.google.com/maps/place/9699-9573+Blue+Mountain+Dr,+Arvada,+CO+80403/@39.8732527,-105.2795538,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x876b93cf78083247:0x255108aa45f5a08f!8m2!3d39.8732489!4d-105.2773427

@@travelingtom923 you're right. It's been over 4 years since I've played the game. At Big 10 Curve, you can look behind you and see your train in two big curves. I know it's a game, but once I got to that point around that curve, I never came off the throttle until Moffitt Tunnel. The ruling grade is 4%, but it doesn't change much from that point to the top. I was wanting to see Moffitt Tunnel on a trip. From one portal to the other, Google maps said 75 miles. I'm curious, is there anything left of the old line before the tunnel was made?

I've wondered about engine consists and helpers. Are all engines kept in working order (controls, seats, cab, bathroom, etc.) so that any engine can be used at any time? Or is like a fleet vehicle where certain units might be more preferable to drive versus others?

All locomotives on the train are in full working order and can be operated manually if they need to. The locomotives pushing on the rear will probably be leading a train the next day.
