Very nice footage. Hopefully 2100 will be fired up sometime this year. She was converted to burn oil again, but will have a much more improved firing system to work well in her firebox. Its a shame 2100 got such a bad reputation during this time, as she was great mechanical condition, just had a slapped together oil firing system at the time. Other than the paint scheme and the awful looking ditch lights, it seems 2100 and the crew did the best they could at that time. Hopefully 2100 will have a much better excursion career coming up and continue for many years to come.

Was lucky enough to see it once in the mid 90s - remember they had a diving show with all these pro divers cannon balling into a small round pool - too cool. Almost worth it to visit just for the gardens and old trees - reminded me a bit of the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. The US needed and needs historic monument preservation acts to save such old buildings and parks at all costs - the new park not only sucks but is a concrete jungle which takes up just as much space. Speaking of Tivoli, also remember there being some kind of dance club inside the mall we went too back in the mid -90s was a pretty cool club back then when there was still Rock Island, the Deadbeat Club, 1082 Broadway and later the Church

Have visited the Witch House three times, very enjoyable, but the third time was unpleasant. The friend that I was with asked an older, white haired staff person a question, and as she talked with us, I absentmindedly put my hand on the back of a ladder back chair. Instead of simply reminding me of museum policy in a low key way - which I was always mindful of during pervious visits - she actually snapped and YELLED at me, causing others in the room to look at us. I said nothing, was startled; she glared at me, and I left the room. A staff person in another room told me to not worry, said that staff sometimes also forget the "don't touch" rule. I later emailed the museum director to suggest that staffers get better training. You don't yell at an adult customer who, with no malice, put his hand on the finial of a chair like he was four years old. I got no reply, contacted the Salem BBB. Someone there contacted the director on my behalf. She emailed me, apologized for the incident, offered to send me a free pass. I accepted, and of course, got no reply. Nice house museum, wonderful collection, but beware-of-dog.

The only evil has always been those endowed with power of government. Whether that means the head of household, emperor of Rome, governor of your state or CEO of the company you are enslaved to... They can be fair and just or evil tyrants and history has proven more often than not, when man receives power, man abuses that power and wields it as a weapon rather than a responsibility. This is most important and most obviously abused in the case of judges and our legal system.

Not 100% sure on the rules in USA but as a Loco Driver myself I would say it would not be allowed except for in yard environments.

I know locomotives of all generations are inherently extremely heavy by themselves, but I always wondered, since weight is such a critical component of tractive effort, is additional weight like concrete, iron/lead, etc. ever added to locomotives? As a kid, when the wheels would spin on my HO scale locomotives, I used to put lead fishing weights in and/or on them and it actually worked to gain more traction!
@FFred-us9twКүн бұрын
Extra weight is absolutely added. But it’s typically done with steel plates. CSX as an example had an order of SD70s that had weight added to them specifically for traction purposes. Usually welded above the frame.
