(17:51) I visit the Sterling area quite often to railfan the CSX New Castle Sub and walk on the County Line Trail that was built on top of the former Erie Lackawanna right-of-way, since I live approximately ten miles from there in the north end of Wooster. The W&LE Brewster Sub is less than five miles from where I live, and I always have to cross over it at the Eby Road crossing outside of Smithville on my way to Sterling.

excellent video. I'm planning a visit to the area in late April and was wondering what the most productive days and time are to catch trains west of Brewster. I know the trains don't hold to a precise schedule just looking for general guidance
@bnsf75622 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Since this video was shot, Wheeling has changed a lot of its operating schedule. From what I can recall now, there is a westbound in the morning that runs to Willard, an eastbound in the afternoon/evening that runs to Brewster and there may be another eastbound from Hartland that shows up at some point. There are occasional stone trains to and from Carey that run any time of day as well as the westbound to Lima. I know that the weekends can produce a good amount of traffic. If you're on Facebook, there is a great Wheeling & Lake Erie group you can join that has many folks who are a bit more knowledgable about current operations and traffic levels. I'd recommend giving it a look!

Recently Spencer was in the news concerning trains blocking town street traffic for lengthy periods. Any word on if-when the problem is cured? I heard the W&LE was not very co-operative.

I’m planning a trip to this area soon, any idea when most of these trains go on duty/depart Brewster yard?
@bnsf75624 жыл бұрын
There have been some significant changes to on duty times since this video was shot. About all I know off the top of my head is that 237 is now a morning westbound and 238 is an afternoon eastbound. Occasionally, there's a 735 to Carey that heads west in the afternoon as well as a 431 to Lima, also heading west. I recommend checking out this group for more information: facebook.com/groups/WLEfanpage

It's amazing that this railroad relies on SD40s when all other regionals think they got to have SD50s,SD60s and SD70s.
@bnsf75624 жыл бұрын
I am a personal fan of the SD40-2. Many of their corporate units (the ones painted in the Wheeling paint) have been rebuilt to a dash-3 standard, but they still sound and look great. Thanks for looking!
@osrr64224 жыл бұрын
The 40s are proven technology with fantastic aftermarket support at this point. The 50s CAN be good units, but are a little more complicated in their stock form, best rebuilt in my opinion (like NS's SD40Es). The 60s and 70s, while good units (and slight more fuel efficient) still cost more on a unit per unit basis and have computerized control systems. More complication.

Next time you’re at Creston and there’s a WLE train, you should set up at the Main street crossing since there’s a teardrop bell there

It's a video about trains bud and CSX and NS are two of the Class I connections that the W&LE has so yes they should be in this video.
@LeeDfined4 жыл бұрын
Be thankful he did it at all. People love complaining on videos when they rarely have videos themselves. Many videos have short clips of run throughs or short clips of foreign railroads. Especially if they have interchange or trackage rights on said railroad.
