Bo Derek, still a screen beauty

I wrote to Ms. Derek several years ago to thank her for the work that she's done on behalf of disabled veterans. I've always admired her work in the movie "10". Aside from her obvious eye appeal, I thought she was remarkably poised and confident in this role, and felt a certain tiny connectedness as we were both born in 1956. In any case, I sent in a check for an autographed photo along with a note of thanks on behalf of my fellow vets. She sent me back a very nice fully clothed autographed photo, along with my un-cashed check, then thanked me for my service. 100% class act in every way.

awwww.... how nice of her. thank you for serving during that tumultuous time. you sacrificed much - if i'm guessing that you served around the age of 19, in the year 1975 - and were hardly thanked for it. you did the right thing, in your eyes, and learned a lot during that time. I wish people of your time period would speak up more. either on social media or in blogs or letters to newspapers. young people of this generation are so busy and loud and completely in need of higher guidance... I keep encouraging my grandma to blog and write more.... so far only one short book on kindle / AMZ.... thanks for speaking up!

What an exceptional woman she's turned out to be. She is someone who's entire identity was her looks. Yet she is so honest and reflective about the real meaning of beauty and being a real woman. That's the kind of grace and maturity that very few women achieve in this world of artifice and exploitation. I love the fact that she hasn't had any surgery or cosmetic procedures, and that she's not giving in to the asinine peer pressure to do so. I think she realizes that going in that direction would be far less rewarding in the long run. People who opt for that way of dealing with age often end up living a substandard existence where they become obsessed with every little wrinkle, crinkle and crease instead of trying to live and enjoy life on a higher level. Bo has chosen to fill her life with things that bring her happiness and contentment. She has created a place for herself where she can add to the world around her and try to make the world just a little bit better instead of focusing on herself and things that really don't matter. And it has paid off for her big time. She lives in a beautiful home, in a beautiful place and has a wonderful loving relationship with a man who thinks she's the greatest woman in the world...and she has achieved the kind of beauty that very few "Hollywood" women do. She is more beautiful today than she has ever been. Thank you so much for this story.

I haven't seen Bo Derek in the news or on TV for quite a while and until just now, didn't give her a second thought. But after watching this video, I'm a fan. She doesn't have an air of importance, hasn't had any cosmetic surgery to her face and seems quite normal. Plus she likes animals and has horses and dogs. What is there not to like.

my first glimpse of bo derek was at the height of her prime: being interviewed by the wonderful joan rivers. 'bo' was playing with a roll of tape with her hands -- too browned from tanning, which didn't match her face -- and joan was very kind toward her, coaxing her along with questions and jokes. my trained eye was thinking that 'bo' was on drugs, with all the fidgeting and nervousness.... but then when she calmed down, and when she kept looking to the older man to her right, I realized that she was just a kind-hearted girl swept up in the lime light. the beauty in all of this lies in time. I would have never believed her if she was a sex-goddess in this age of photoshop and sound bytes. back then, there were full frames lasting whole seconds.... I could read her entire body language, and that of her interviewer at the same time. (how I miss those full-screen shots!). in her interview at the age of 58, she is more centered and knowing who she is. she has beauty inside herself, and no longer reaches out towards other for confirmation of it. she reaches toward animals to connect with that heart beauty.... would be great if she taught this wisdom through aroma therapy. there is so much that California is open to, and yet so much it has simply not listened to. the 'bo' of today is a woman that is virgin-like and undecided.... she is hesitant and soft, and in being so evokes targeted emotions in the 'macho men' of this era. the Bo I saw decades ago was beautiful and symmetrical and full of life, and yet her hesitancy and uncertainty and scatteredness dispelled that within mere seconds. the wisdom Bo has learned should be expounded upon more.... maybe in a story or a longer interview. Bo should be her middle name now, for she has found her way back to the first one :)
