Fun to see this! And the different reactions from the audience. Many didn’t realize they were seeing a true master. When I saw him about ten years after this, my mouth was wide open the whole concert.

If you think about it Bo Diddley invented the Bo Diddley beat then named the song after himself. As one of the founding fathers of rock n roll he developed quite a business model. Other artists picked up on the Bo Diddley beat. Personally George Thorogood is my personal favorite with his Bad To The Bone song.

Designed by Bo in 1959. He called it the Jupiter Thunderbird. There were only two made (one for Bo and one for his rhythm guitarist, Peggy Jones, and if you look around on KZbin you can find footage of them both playing them). In later years Bo gave one of them to Billy Gibbons, of ZZ Top. BG eventually got Gretsch to start making them for sale, now renamed the Billy-Bo. I've got one and it's a really comfortable, lovely guitar to play.

The drumming is key to this song. Always amazed me to see clips with a white drummer doing a standard rock rhythm rather than the essential style here. Bo sure got a lot of mileage out of one song.
@surinapiri-surutube4733 Жыл бұрын
Straight beat was Bo's own preference. I've read interviews of some musicians that played on later tours and they talk about how Bo always told them to play straight. "I'll do that rhythm, that is my job". Dont know reason, maybe it was that those hired musicians did not just had that sense of rhythm and Bo chose to keep it simple and easy, or maybe Bo wanted to update his sound to harder, straighter and more modern rock. Maybe both

Bo gave Billy a guitar. Bo made his own guitars. Saw him one snowy winter night in Ottawa. Only a dozen people made it. He was late because canadian customs thought there was something fishy about his guitars. Bo said some of his best times were two people. He played some notes that sounded like it came from angels!
