Fusrodog has anything replaced it over time? Would you still recommend it after all those years? Or would you recommend something more modern?
@thebaaabuuu5 жыл бұрын
@@camillelambert5474 Dominion is very much a deep game. Games have come over time to "replace" it like ascension and so on. But it is one of the simpler deck builder games that are good. The game has a surprising amount of depth and you will keep finding new stuff. As PROZD says it has no theme but its quite indepth but simple at the same time.
@avidgamer20115 жыл бұрын
@@camillelambert5474 honestly, it still holds up incredibly well and serves as a good intro to the genre. There's a ton of expansions that add new mechanics and playstyles. If you don't care for the theme or want something different then sure, (Ascension is very different from Dominion, but I prefer Dominion myself). If you're complete weeb garbage, I'd reccomend tanto cuore (though I still think Dominion is a better game)

There Is Also Many Expansions For Dominion. It's A Game That You Won't Get *Board* Of Soon!
@WimpyMcWeaksauce5 жыл бұрын
Dominion is my shit. I used to play every day online, back when the free site was still up (with no pictures!). And I have most of the physical sets, all in a big custom case. The expansions really make the game. It's kinda like Magic, in that it was the granddaddy of its genre, and has grown even better over the years via constant updates. I teach new players all the time, but this game is not easy on the newcomers. I usually have to try oddball strategies for them to have any chance of winning. Thankfully I've gotten good at easing people into the more advanced tactics, like when to "green", and whether an engine deck is even optimal on a given board. It's always fun showing people "big money" or aggressive trashing for the first time. This game is a great example of "easy to learn, hard to master." If you're looking at expansions, I HIGHLY recommend Prosperity, followed by Intrigue (2nd Edition), and finally Seaside. Complex sets like Adventures, Empires, and Dark Ages are more polarizing, but I personally enjoy them. The other sets are just alright. Except Alchemy. Alchemy is hot garbage.
@davidk74394 жыл бұрын
Prosperity and Intrigue are reaaaally hard for me to get a definitive recommendation over the other, just because both are very good sets. I'd recommend for newcomers who are figuring out their first expansion to also figure out what cards and playstyles they like, and if they want more of that. While they both cater to all playstyles to an extent, Intrigue tends to have more of a focus on combos, attacks, and versatile cards, Prosperity has a heavier focus on engines and big money.

Why is Alchemy so garbage?
@P1ankt0nb0y2 жыл бұрын
@@boopyy Alchemy has the potion mechanic. You can buy a potion for 4 coins which can then be used to buy other cards that have the potion as a cost. Where this gets awkward is these cards often cost coin as well, so frequently you will draw your potion with not enough coin and not be able to use it (or with a lot of coin and be forced to make an awkward choice). Draw luck is a factor of the game but it's crushing in Alchemy, one player is often left fumbling while another cruises ahead and in some cases can lock them out of the game.

This is one of the few games where I think getting an expansion or two is a better deal than just adding another game to your collection. The expansions add so much customisability and replay-ability to this game. They work flawlessly with all of the established rulesets and add so much to the experience. Plus, due to the nature of Dominion, you can easily scale "how much" of an expansion you want to play just by choosing to use more or less of the expansion cards with the base game cards.
@alexanderhamm5295 жыл бұрын
Thank you for explaining the game succinctly at the beginning! I always have to explain the game to the newcomers. Now all I need is for somebody to help me set up and clean up...
@davidk7439 Жыл бұрын
Something that I want to expand upon, since he only briefly touched up on it at the end; At time of writing, this game has *fifteen* expansion packs. Most of them are excellent, and are all self-contained, meaning they're each non-reliant on having anything other than the base game. Most of them introduce a mechanic (Seaside with Duration cards, Dark ages with Ruins, Nocturne with Night cards, Adventures with Tavern cards), and reiterate and improve on previous ones (Intrigue with attack and secondary effects, Dark Ages with trashing, Hinterlands with....everything pre-dark ages). If you like the base game, get a couple with mechanics that seem interesting to you!
@nightblade12463 ай бұрын
Also, a good first expansion to get is prosperity. It’s not too confusing but it’s adds a lot to the game. All of the other expansions are like mini versions of original dominion, but prosperity is more of building on to the original game. Prosperity adds platinum, which is a higher treasure than gold, colony, which is a higher victory card than provinces, and a lot of treasure cards that have a lot of abilities you’d expect from an action card. Overall, a simple but fun expansion

Just a strategical tip with the Cellar card. In rough, general terms, an important strategy to playing Cellar is to fill up your hand with as many useless/bad cards as possible before playing Cellar. This way there are more cards in your hand that you're willing to discard, therefore Cellar gives you more draw. Therefore, in your example at 3:00, it would be better to play Market first, as you would have drawn into one of your Estates, then play Cellar to discard it along with however many Coppers that you're willing to riskily give away, essentially giving you an extra draw (I say 'riskily' because the cards you draw may or may not be as useful as the Copper cards, such as Victory Cards, which is why it can be important to try and keep track of what's still in your draw pile, although this is quite advanced). The order in which you play your cards in your Action Phase can make all the difference. Another benefit of digging into your draw pile for bad cards like this is that it eliminates those cards from being dead draws for you next turn. And even if the card you draw into is a good card, like another Action Card, it doesn't matter because both Market and Cellar give you more Actions so you can still potentially play it if you want to. Obviously, you generally run a risk by digging into your deck like this with a card that DOESN'T give you more Actions, like Smithy. However with cards that DO give you more Actions, there's generally no risk at all.
@Vyse24875 жыл бұрын
BTW for those who don't know, this is the 2nd edition of the game which has different artwork and a few different cards than the 1st edition. There was a pack that included the new cards for 1st edition owners, but I believe it's out of print now.

I've probably played Dominion more than any other game, especially since they released an online client that I use to play with friends from college. I think the 2nd edition of the base game (shown here), but the real magic comes with the expansions. While there's a ton of them, I'd say Dark Ages and Adventures are among my favorites (the first for the variety of trashing effects, one of the most powerful effects in the game, and the second for having interesting card interactions). As for my favorite deckbuilder overall (no expansions required), I'd probably say Puzzle Strike. That game has probably the coolest win state of any game I've played, and has a good amount of depth. That said, it does have a little bit more of a learning curve, and some people find the use of "chips" (basically cardboard poker chips) instead of cards a bit fiddly. A... surprisingly solid deckbuilder is Barbarossa. That one actually has really solid mechanics in building up an army and attacking cities. It is also a game where you play as sexy anime Nazis invading Russia. So... not the most PC game, but if you can embrace the absurdity of the premise then it can be a lot of fun.

If you like Dominion, I would be interested to see what you think of Ascension. Assuming you don't bounce off the art/aesthetic of Ascension, it does a lot of things right following on from Dominion's footsteps. You can play as many actions as you have in your hand, all of the cards have victory points attached to them (so you don't have "dead" cards like the Estates/etc), you can more easily adjust the game length, you can buy/defeat as many cards as you can afford, and the common pool is changing and dynamic.

@Artemiy Solopov: Technically, yes, but in my experience, you generally don't need more Copper than the seven you start with. They get in the way of your better Treasure cards like Silvers and Golds. Buying lots of Silver and Gold early, then buying a good trasher (like Chapel from basic, or Doctor from Guilds) to get rid of your Coppers is generally the way to go so you can draw your good Treasures.
