That depends on your point of view. By selling games to the distributor, they'd run a lot less risk, but would have a much lower income ceiling. By opening their own enterprise, they are shooting for higher gains.

Yeah talk about aging poorly lol. Vinyl is still (re)growing every year with a strong and dedicated community and culture around it. For the most part it's basically the only physical media anyone buys anymore. Just one of many occasions that have shown that the Dragons have no idea what the future might hold and really they mostly just got lucky on their way to making millions

For those that are interested. I did the research they had assets of 43k in 2018 with debt of 7k. As of 2017 Duncan still owned shares in the company. As did a finance company called Alta Capital. I'm unsure if this company is affiliated with Peter Jones. Whereas Byannatyne Media was fairly obvious to make the connection. Their social media had been defunct since 2015 so I think it's fair to say although they didn't make any money they at least nearly got out the red.

The problem with question based games is the questions can go out of date and once you've played the game enough times, you know all the answers That's why Monopoly works. It's timeless, games last a while, and there is replayability

Thank goodness they accepted!! It is literally risk free for them. Give away 40% and have a chance of success. If it works you get your 10% back, if it fails you gave away 40% of nothing anyway. It seems almost nobody thinks this way when pitching, and I do wonder if Dragon's Den edits in a way that they never show this line of thought during the pitch.

@@shabath i also want to add that markets growing can be a double edged sword. it means you get more buyers BUT you also have to compete with sooo many other games out there. So in a way its good for business but it also means you have to do more to keep standing out and that's something a business person needs to study in the market they want to get into. so those hobbiest exist but a good product can still fail if no one is able to find it in a list of 100+ new products that want to be made. Or the product is great and the PR sucks, stuff like that matters.

Actually, board games and other tabletop games are making a comeback. The key thing for game companies is that you have to keep coming out with new games, or supplements for your existing games. You have to keep coming up with new revenue streams, but ways to monetize. Because unless you have something that's brilliant like Monopoly, that has a high annual turnover and long staying power, each game will run its course eventually.

Frankly, it sounds like a worse Balderdash, because you're constrained by your answer needing to sound reasonable next to a real answer. That being said, I find trivia games in general are pretty crap, because once you know the answer that's it, replay value's gone.
