With Spiel 2024 in October I think it’s fine to go over the best games in 2024 now. I wouldn’t expect any more major releases after Spiel.

As far as AI artwork goes it depends on the sources used. Take for example Wizards of the Coast. Over the decades of making D&D, board games, card games and fantasy novels they have paid artists for illustrations. WotC owns these images. There is no reason why they can not use that source and AI to generate new work. They would be using their own property. Just randomly grabbing pictures from the internet and using them should not be allowed. What we might see in the future is a pool of many companies forming a collective of their art assets for common use .

Completely against Best of 2024 in November. None of those lists shouldn't appear before January 2025. It basically makes me feel like it's even less legitimate than these lists normally are. Hopefully that best games of the year aggregation website is back again, at least it gave a more fair overall view of games of the past year.

Someone new to boardgames I rely on bbg a lot but now questioning their rating. for example they gave lands of evershade a 7.7 but your review I would have guess 8.6 on bbg. I bought a lot of games rated 8s and some 7s but know I feel I missed out on lot of good games I stayed away from

Sorry but if a company tells me that they didnt "Use" AI art because they hired an "artist" and that "artist utalized" ai art then the company used AI art. You cant say that AI art wont take jobs away from artists if we pretend that people who use AI to generate things are themselves "artists" now.

The moderation of boardgamegeek is absolutely ridiculous. I was banned for life (!) for being disruptive. I literally wouldn't hurt a fly and see only the good in people. I posted unpopular facts about sustainability and global population twice and that was it. People prefer to live in a candyland superficiality, I suppose.

They have a huge problem with radicalized moderators and moderator abuse. We need alternative sites for board games. It may help if board game news, videos and discussions start to prioritize X, since it offers more freedom of speech.
